Have a little one who refuses to go to the barber. I figure it's to do with the noise the cutters make. Is there a low noise cutter I can buy which may do the trick? I have been cutting his hair with scissors at home and have been doing a pretty bad job at it.

my local hairdresser has how noise clippers, and my son still hated it, i just just him one of his favorite videos on my phone and stood next to him. took a couple of times for the tears to stop.

Could wireless ear buds be another option? Not sure how quiet you are after but the latest one I got a few months ago is a Remington which I feel is quiet enough but automatically goes turbo when needed. https://www.jbhifi.co.nz/home-appliances/remington/remington-titanium-turbo-pro-hair-clipper-kit/347206/

Is it worth just leaving his hair to grow until the annoyance of it being there beats the aversion to the barbers?

As a youngster my son had a bad experience and refused to get his hair cut for quite a few years.

He eventually participated in a Shave for Cancer fund raiser, and raised $2500 for the Cancer Society.

He has had short hair ever since :)

Barbers can cut hair with scissors too.  They don't NEED to use the clippers.  Try and ask them?

As a youngster, I was not a good candidate for buzz haircuts.  The buzzing coming up to my ear always made me jump - which made it impossible for the hair dresser.

Maybe something to do with bees, maybe just invading personal space. I don't know.  I just know when the buzzing came close I would always jump.

Eventually I learned to expect it/bear it, and stay still - but it still takes a conscious effort on my part.

I found one way to get one of my sons used to the clippers - I let him use them on me. He had great fun.

It's not as bad as it sounds, as over summer, I tend to buzz my own hair down as short as possible anyway.
