Just received an email from Spark about the Morepork Security System which Spark has sold to ADT. Considering I left ADT becuaser they messed me around so much this is quite annoying. Anyone else here using Morepork and what will you do about the sale. Live with it or change to something else.

How long will it take for ADT to raise the prices

Not too long. I note that they are already marketing a similar system that works with their current monitoring system so that it can be armed/disarmed remotely from cellphone. They are most likely just wanting the customers list and then try to move people to their standard system at a more expensive price of course. What is more disappointing is that Spark are clearing their business of all but core business. Watch this space for Lightbox to get dumped, and then the sport television. Imagine they might try to do a deal with Sky or Vodafone. I knew something was happening when the previous boss Moutter suddenly resigned and the new person did not seem to be interested in the new business initiatives. What with Chorus wanting a bigger slice of the Broadband Fee and Spark trying to move people onto Wireless instead of Fibre interesting times ahead.

Companies try moonshot initiatives all the time. Sometimes they pay off, other times they bomb. Anyone remember Ferrit?

I'd rather they focus on fewer products and do a good job, than spread their finite resources on many aging and newish products and do them all averagely.

It's also common for new leaders to put their own mark on a company, and not simply follow in the footsteps of the last CE.

If they raise their prices, I'll just cancel.

Personally I think its kinda overpriced as is for a self monitored system.  Paying $29.99 (or whatever) a month with AMI discount.  For something I self monitor.

I do like that it has a sim card in it, thats a nice feature.  I like the panel where it has a traditional keypad to disarm.  The tech is nice, could do with a fancier main panel, but eh, its still pretty pricey.   At least all the sensors are z-wave and can likely be reused.

This is my issue with it and any replacement.  I want a full expandable system with decent cameras, video sensors etc. with a physical smart control panel... I am yet to find an off the shelf product that is in NZ that does all of the Morepork systems requirements with battery backup AND sim.  I can get around the sim bit by using my 2degrees sim and my router and the whole thing is powered via 1920w Dell UPS but my main issue the smart controls itself... I've looked at Google Home for nest products etc. and they do lots of things but not all in one place.

Isn't Morepork just a rebadged Alarm.com? Could you go direct?

No, you need a reseller and morepork was it... The actual panel is an IQ panel and version 2 looks awesome but can't be bought without a service provider.

If only we could go to Alarm. Com but they are only dealing with the installer companies. They don't deal with customers direct. And only in USA

To be honest I'd be happy to replace my morepork system with a standard z-wave compliant approach as long as I could somehow get a control panel so that my family who don't have mobile phones can disarm the alarm like a traditional one.

yeah me too, but the battery backup and sim card are a really nice feature.

Im tempted to just dump an alarm altogether and just go with ring.com cameras.  they give instant notification, and record everything.  upfront cost is pretty high though....
