Hi,

We're looking for the safest, cheapest, most reliable way to get a F&P Top Loading Washing machine from our home in Taupo to our Daughter in Christchurch.

Anyone have any recommendations who (or who not) to use, and costs?

its likely to big/heavy for a courier and you would need a transport company, like mainfreight pbt etc

as for costs, some have online calculators or you could just call and ask.

Couriers don’t usually deal in big items you would most likely need to use a freight company like mainfrieght but they can be expensive.

Your could try talking to them as they might be able to put it in a container that’s already going that way and isn’t full.

There are sometimes smaller local companies who will do it cheaper as well but I don’t know in your area.

We managed to get a dishwasher from Auckland to Tauranga just by my wife putting it out there on Facebook. A family member of a friend was coming down in a van and picked it up for us all for the price of a bottle of wine. A bit of a long shot but you never know if you don’t ask.

Far too heavy for courier

You’ll need to use a freight forwarder, to name a few

Mainfreight
Dailyfreight
Mainstream
Freightlines
PBT Freight

Take photos before sending because there’s a chance it gets damaged in transit and tell your daughter to inspect for damage and to sign accordingly (received damaged) or you’ll have a hard time claiming the insurance.

I don't know what it'd cost to freight a washing machine from Taupo to Christchurch, but I bet it's a lot more than buying your daughter one off Trademe in Christchurch.

Yeah, seems an expensive exercise unless its a top of line flash model that cost you a small fortune and is under a year old.

Cost me (well, the company at the time) around $400 to ship a server safely from Auckland to Chch a few years ago via Pack and Send.

"safest": We recently moved from Auckland to Wellington, using professional removalists. Our F&P Top Loading Washing machine - which has worked perfectly for 10 years - was dead on arrival, although it showed no external signs of damage. Our old F&P drier was visibly damaged and also had to be replaced.

"cheapest": As others have said, this is not an economic proposition.

My advice - don't do it. 😐
