Hi Guys,

Turned on my ipod touch this morning to discover a grey horizontal line across the screen.   Couple of questions:

a) has anybody else had this problem?
b) this should be covered under warranty right?
c) I downloaded the new firmware file rather than buying it through apple - will this make a difference to the warranty?

Thanks in advance!

a) No, not mine (that's both my old and the new replaced one)
b) Yep (unless you did something to it, like press extremely hard on the screen, or drop it)
c) You mean you downloaded Software 2.0 rather than spend $14 on it? Well... Undecided

Nope didnt drop it take very good care of it as have had bad experiences previously

yep didnt spend $14 on it lol cheapskate I know - this is the one that is concerning me the most - maybe I should just pay $14 dollars and download the "official" version before I send it off?

PS is totallymac the best place to handle the repair?

Backup your device (right click your device in iTunes) and then enter DFU mode, completely restore from iTunes and you should be fine to send it off.

lol. Sounds like you apple fans are real happy. Yep im missing out on so much lols. Lol if only i was forced to buy firmware updates so that i could listen to the new music on the ipod i dont have. lol. If only i had itunes installed on my pc trying to get me to install a whole ton of junk that apple makes. Yep shure is good. And those screens break so easy. And yer. Yep. Um its probably the result of the bad update. Looks like that $14 firmware upgrade just got a whole load more expensive. I sugest replacing your cellphone with something flasher that is good enough to handle mass mp3s. Something with alot of space on it, and a big screen. Not a iphone lol.
