we are looking for advice on something to play itunes on for our wedding this december. we were planning to use our laptop which would be connected to an amp & speakers, however the laptop has a habit of turning itself off. Does anybody have any ideas on what we could use instead of the laptop? cheers.
You could create a playlist in iTunes, transfer that over to an iPod (or iPhone) and run that into the amp, just make sure you have it powered on so it doesn't run out of juice. Or, if you don't have access to the above, burn the playlist to CD[s] and just play that through a stereo/DVD player etc.
Either of those methods should solve the problem (you could of course splash out on a brand spanking new Macbook or similar)

i'd love to splash out on a new notebook but thats not possible at the moment! maybe an ipod would be the way to go, we have a 1gb nano which probably wouldn't do the job but maybe its time to upgrade! we do have a stereo that plays dvds, do you think it would be possible to save a huge playlist on a dvd and play it through that? cheers.

The 1GB nano will hold about 240 songs (depending on the length) which should give you about 16 hours of continuos playback which should get you though the wedding unless it's one of those all nighters.
I would think the MP3's will play off a DVD disk in a DVD player as long as the DVD player supports MP3/AAC playback.

yes the stereo plays mp3's. no it wouldn't last 16 hours!!! more likely 8 ish! we will trial the laptop to see if it will stay on for longer. it used to be on a mdf wooden desk but it heats up really badly. we moved house and now its on a small cardboard box and it hasn't turned itself off... yet! if not the stereo or nano... good to know we won't have to rent something!
the reason i hadn't thought the nano would work was i didn't think 1GB was enough space (which it is now i'm corrected) and i don't know how i'd charge it, although i know you can get a desk ipod charger. thanks for your help everyone i think we definitely have some options.
