Been looking into home automation for our old house and wanting to keep things largely hidden and in-keeping with the age of the house, this has led me down the route of looking at Raspberry Pi, Vera, etc. We are an Apple dominant house so I'm keen to have everything on HomeKit if possible and using a gateway can help to widen my hardware into non-homekit compatible hardware which is then made HomeKit compatible by the use of a gateway. Homey seems like it does everything (z-wave and Zigbee, etc.) and can bridge to HomeKit. Has anyone tried one before I take the plunge?

Does it do the NZ/AU Z-wave frequency? If not it might cause issues with either transmitting on a non-allowed frequency or not being able to communicate with the Z-wave devices allowed in NZ.

Yes they do - but only in the standard version, not the pro.

I considered it but then bought the Hubitat instead for 2 main reasons:

1) Price.
2) The community.
3) Z-Wave Frequencies.

Hubitat is great and have a NZ/AU model also with the correct Z-Wave frequencies. Homey works on 868 MHz Z-Wave meaning it is actually illegal to operate in NZ.

So, don't do it. Just grab the Hubitat or Smartthings (from Noel Leemings) instead and be done with it.

According to Homey, their Australasian version has the correct Z-wave frequencies so isn't illegal & you can also buy it at stores in Australia so I presume it's all above board. As far as I can tell (please correct me if I am wrong) the Hubitat doesn't do bluetooth or HomeKit. HomeKit is the main reason for me getting a hub.

Homey is reasonably $$ but my alternatives were a Pi with a few extras and a lot of work from me (which I don't really have the time for) or Vera with a HomeKit adapter and they'd add up to similar money with more places for things to go wrong.
