We've got an Amazon Echo Plus (in the livingroom) and also an Echo Dot (in one of the bedrooms).

I was planning on purchasing another two Echo Dot's (for two other bedrooms), but apparently it won't work properly on a Spotify Family account.

Let's say that bedroom 1 asks its Echo Dot to play a song.

You will then not be able to ask the Echo Dot in bedroom 2 to play a different song/playlist.

From what I can see, the only workaround would be to pair a device (for example and iPad) via Bluetooth to each Echo Dot.

And then via the Spotify app choose what you want to hear.

Is this correct?

Yes, that's the way. You can only link one Spotify account to a Amazon account.

That’s madness.
From what I understand, you can both do this with Apple Music and Amazon Music.

Spotify on echo is a bit mediocre. It’s really my only significant complaint about the system.

I’ve thought of going to Amazon music but the Spotify ecosystem is compelling.

I’ve cancelled my Spotify Family plan. Moving to Amazon Music when it expires.

Echo devices in families is a terribly implimented idea with no way to stop the kids messing with each other, no access control across devices etc. Its like the developers have never encountered kids when their best effort is making an echo dot useless and selling it for more money as the kid solution.

There is a way to link two Spotify accounts on your echo. I don't remember exact details, but you can create `household` and link two `adult` amazon accounts to all your echos (at least US accounts, but should work for NZ as well). This allows you to have two separate settings including Spotify accounts. You can switch between them by saying 'Alexa switch accounts'. This worked really well when I used Spotify.
