I sent my grandchild a Kobo e reader to Australia, and they can’t connect it to WiFi. Needless to say the child is pretty disappointed.

They have 5g. Has anyone had similar issues and is there a workaround someone can suggest.
Thanks

Verify that your router supports and is set to 2.4 GHz. Kobo eReaders can only connect to Wi Fi networks that are 2.4 GHz.

Thanks, the parents are working and no time to be delving into this.

I guess the next question is would 5 G support 2.4Ghz or have I bought them a gift that either won’t work on 5 G or needs an expensive new router. Sigh...

Ive not come across any "pure" 5G only routers, so if anything, probably find the 2.4 is turned off on the router. I could be wrong tho.

Find out what brand/model router they have and post it here.

It’s a nighthawke Netscape D7000v2 router and yes it does support 2.4 GHZ but for some reason no devices can attach to it as the 5G seems to be taking priority. The router is transmitting on both frequencies, I have checked the settings online and the firmware of the router is up to date.

I asked if other devices won’t connect and they said...'Just the kobo. It recognised the router and the 2.4ghz userid but won’t attach. We can manually load books we buy via the laptop.'

The whole point of buying it was that it would join to a public library.

Can they do a WPS setup on the devices? I dont trust people to enter the wifi key themselves most of the time.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

They are going to try in the weekend. Apparently it’s picking up every other apartments wifi, just not theirs. Expensive gift if it doesn’t do what it’s meant to.

And they are not on channel 12 or 13 for their only 2.4GHz accesspoint are they?

Sent that to them. They can check on the weekend. Am going to get my wings clipped if Mother in law keeps annoying them while they work and have the child at home studying.
