Is there such a thing as camera or camera sender that communicates directly to a device wirelessly? I'm trying to avoid having a router and intermediate device.

I want to be able to mount a camera on the back of my boat so that when I tow it, I can see if people are stuck behind me. Distance from dashboard to the camera position is about 10 or 11m. Aluminium boat.

If I can get a wireless signal to a device at the dashboard I have a solution for displaying it.

Battery powered is fine, or I have 12vDC available.

For anyone wondering, hardwired isn't really an option ... the camera needs to be mounted on the boat to get a good view - and avoid getting dunked! The boat obviously separates from the trailer so a cable to the boat isn't an option either.

sure, one of those "wirelesss" reversing cameras from supercheap auto will work. you would simply set it up with 12v when plugged in and off you go

Done this with a wireless camera that I got off aliexpress, has a mirror overlay screen with a reciever in it that lights up when it sees a signal and on the trailer I have the camera on the tail light circuit. I only really use it to see about backing up to the pit at the tip and backing up to the house, but its on anytime the lights are since there was no reverse feed to the socket on my trailer. The camera that it came with was a rego plate mount, but I put it up on the top of the rear cage gate of the trailer, the little box it comes with in a not so well sealed it turns out waterproof box and a detachable plug incase I want to remove the cage off the trailer.

Do you think it will work without the accompanying monitor?

Hoping to receive the signal with a RasPi and output HDMI to the vehicle entertainment system. The camera can just run all the time from the boat battery.

That is absurdly priced for what it is. Look on AliExpress for what they should cost.

The receivers for most of the wireless ones output analog video on an RCA connection. You could get a av to HDMI adapter and use that if you don't want to use the cheap lcd. Just check the car will show HDMI with you driving and that you can still have other audio playing.

Good point and the first thing I planned to check. I don't mind if switching to HMDI temporarily stops the audio, but if it won't display while the car is driving (quite possible) that kills the project.
