I had a couple of these arrive yesterday and installed them this morning.

So far my impressions are positive. They were very easy to setup, the firmware updated seamlessly and image quality seems decent. The motion detection works well but as reviewers have said the notifications are very slow, taking up to a minute to arrive.

Theses have a base station, that you connect to ethernet, and the cameras. I have been pleasantly surprised by that base station range. My house is solid breezeblock and it had no problem going through 5 or 6 walls out to my garage.

When I played around last night the IR seemed pretty decent as well, I'll have more of a play tonight.

Alexa integration works well, I've got it working on my Echo shows, which the kids love.

Wyze directly using a reshipper.

Baring in mind that @Handle9 doesn't live in NZ anymore from what I understand :)

But same thing for NZ - Likely YouShop from Amazon or Wyze directly would be the way of getting them in.

Is the hub powered by MicroUSB / USB-C also?

I used Shop&Ship (Aramex) as they only ship to the US.

The hub isn't USB powered, it comes with a plug pack and has a barrell connector.

How long from saying alexa show me the front door to seeing a picture? What is the latency on the video like? My zmodos take forever (10+ seconds to show) and have about 1 second of latency between movement/sound and coming out the echo show, which is really unacceptable.

Similar or slower. I'm a long way from an AWS server which probably doesn't help. The UAE isn't officially supported for Echo devices. Ironically Amazon here doesn't sell them but you can buy grey market or import via a reshipper.

If you don't want latency you need on prem IME rather than web hosted.

Not sure why since its only a few 10s of ms to a data center and 2 trips at even 50ms dont take that long. Once its connected I would expect the stream to be from camera to echo, and 15 seconds is absurd.

Even it its using a north american data center its not 15 seconds to do anything long if it wastnt just crap.

I ordered a couple of them as part of the initial release ages ago, arrived at the re-shipper in early August and they only just started on the US to NZ leg yesterday, thanks to YouShop.

As per other threads, YouShop is über slow at the moment and charges are way higher than they used to be (plus there’s the GST thing...), so need to take that into account, but I’m already using Wyze PanCams so it makes sense to stay with the same brand.

I can confirm that the viewing delay via Google Home is dire, so much so I just don’t bother (video maybe 15 seconds behind live); TBH GA integration stopped working a few months back and I’ve not tried to solve it, so there is a chance it’s not so bad now.

There's a few more flights from the US to the UAE, even during a pandemic :)

Does Aramex offer Shop and Ship in NZ? That's who I use here (although Aramex is based in the UAE so aren't really comparable to NZ).

It’s no faster here in Seattle

From their web page:
“ The technology we're currently using has high latency. We're looking to change to a near real-time solution in the future for our Google Assistant integration, but this will require overhauling the infrastructure that the Wyze Cam is using.”

I've just put the cameras on charge for the first time. They still had about 15% battery left. I'm pretty happy with 3 months between charges.

I think I got more like two months, but that's with a lot of recordings thanks to the kids playing on the front lawn a decent amount.

I read in one of the (frequent) emails that Cam Plus is now available on the outside model, but I imagine that would have a significant impact on battery life if it's making full-length event recordings.

BTW, if anyone in NZ is interested in purchasing one of the cameras, I have a spare base station I'd be happy to sell for a few bucks, meaning you'd only need to buy the camera (not the starter kit) which should also be cheaper to post (given I assume the box would be smaller).
