I bought 2 of these when they were released here a few months back. I set the language to UK english and all was working well.

In the last few weeks both of them have started getting really annoying to the point of useless.

You can tell it to "play radio nz national" (or whatever streaming service you want) and away it goes.

After this its anyone's guess if it will do what you ask.
You say "hey google" and it goes "bink" and drops the volume. You give it a command and it listens then just ignores what you say. Occasionally you might get a run of a couple of commands that work, then it just listens each time but does nothing.

I increased the sensitivity - though it always hears me say "hey google" and goes quiet.
Google suggests wiping the google home app cache - so I did that. No joy.
Have factory reset both devices.
Retrained google assistant with my voice.
Rebooted my phone.
Changed the language to Aussie english.
Worked like a charm for 20 minutes or so and now has returned to listening, but then just ignoring me.

I hope its just a bad software release - but google isn't the best at fixing things IMHO.

Anyone else got one of these and having issues recently?

EDIT: found the command log file and it has lots of "unknown voice command"
So its just deciding it has no idea what I am saying for periods of time. Googled this and found its been driving other users randomly crazy for at least a year.

Interesting others report this for the last year, as I thought it was a more recent problem - like you, I’ve noticed they’ve been particularly bad at doing exactly what you report. And, for us, that’s on a mixture of Google Minis, Nest Minis, a Google Hub and a Nest Hub Max. I don’t think I’ve ever found them as frustrating... I can confirm this by how often my wife has to tell me off for calling Google some not-so-nice words!

Interesting that a "hey google -shut up" nearly always works while the "stop" or "stop playback" works less well these days.

I've got a Google Mini and it's working just fine. Very rarely have to repeat myself.

These things are really annoying!
This morning it worked 100% for 2 hours, then decided it just wanted to ignore me 50% of the time.

Grandchildren came to visit around lunchtime and have been shreaking in their squeakiest voices, stupid things like..
Play poo
Play bum bum
Play toilet and other totally random childlike requests (they are 5 and think this is hilarious of course )

The bloody thing has been fishing up stuff from Spotify with 100% accuracy (Spotify has content that matches these purile requests amazingly) much to the 5 year olds great amusement.

Perhaps using a chipmunk like voice is key.....

Because I always appreciate it when people post updates to their posts, here is mine...

I have no idea what has changed, but for the last month (more or less) , my 2 google home minis have been behaving themselves perfectly. I can't see any evidence they received any software updates - I recall the versions ended in 49 - and that still seems to be the case.

They respond much quicker and always seem to understand what I say now. So i am a happy customer again.

I wonder if somehow there was some intermitent connection issue with Google's servers for a time. I am on bigpipe ufb and have strong wifi, but the number of times they just seemed to have no idea what was being said makes me wonder.

For the record, I am making the same requests now as I always have.

Anyway happy (for now) - fingers x'd.
