Hey everyone,

I'm currently looking for some new smart plugs. I've currently got SonOff S22 smart plugs but after a recent scare with a bulb blowing I've started questioning the safety of them and if anything ever went wrong whether they'd be the difference between an insurance claim being accepted or denied. Does anyone know if these devices are certified here and if not, do you have any recommendations that don't cost too much? I'd need to replace about 6 of them.

Cheers

Zwave smart Switch 6 are NZ certified (but up around the $110 mark + a zwave controller).

Arlec, brilliant sold by bunnings - I don't know what there app is like, I got a brilliant one and flashed it with tasmota so I can mqttt control is from openhab.  About $20 and are wifi.

TP Link Kasa, not sure how much, pbtech have them, uses their app, not sure how open (as in to control with openhab/home assistant).

There's bound to be others, but those are the ones i can think of off the top of my head.

I have some of the Arlecones from bunnings, both individuals and powerboards.

Use the Tuya or smartlife app, not the arlec branded one and you'll be fine.

The seem decent enough quality.

I have one Lenovo one which is also a rebranded Tuya - feels much nicer, but essentially the same thing so stayed cheap.

Pity they're so ugly.  The brilliant ones, while useful and have a usb socket, are quite large.  Teh zwave one i have is a nice square with an LED, but I'm going off zwave.

Yeah I've seen a few, cheapest I've found is $29. Gets pricy quick. Good idea checking out mitre 10

Size is definitely a factor I'd consider. The Sonoffs are quite big as well.

Looks like they'd probably be compatible with home assistant through Toya as well. How do we check if they're certified here?

I'm using the Brilliant units at $19 from Bunnings

Very easy to re-flash and using with Tasmota etc.

TPLink Kasa work well. I have one of their standard and one that's also a power meter. The app is very good, but no idea if it integrates with anything else as I haven't tried it.
