We recently stayed in an AirBnB that had a digital smart lock and I like the concept, so I'm keen to do a bit more research. Does anyone have any pointers? Build quality and good integration options are top of my list in terms of requirements.

Thanks.

I have been using a Nuki lock for a few years and have been very happy. I got the gateway for remote access which also has a nice open API for custom integration if you like. I also got the keypad which is handy for key and phone less access.

Lockly is cool (https://lockly.co.nz/)
It has fingerpring recognition too which tends to be faster than putting in a code

Did you manage to get it to work with HA?

I have the Schlage Encode deadbolt which works incredibly well. Only downsides is only lock via Google assistant, no HA integration but the main reason I got it is no hub required (it has wifi built in).

I really like the options and the look of the Lockly. I'm so angry I didn't buy one last time I was in Wellington.

JBHiFi had it "in store only", for 399.

We have the Yale 3109+ installed as part of the our new home build. It was one of only two 'smart' locks offered and the other was much worse!

Yale 3109+ Digital Door Lock (yalehome.co.nz)

While its a good lock with plenty of useful features - child-proof, pin code entry, auto-locking, card entry, key entry, etc) plus Bluetooth connection when you add the extra module. It does NOT integrate with Alexa or Google Home... this is probably a benefit as it solves the issue of a billy burglar shouting commands at your chosen home automation agent trying to get it.

We did manage to set the a Master pin number for the door while the builders were finishing off their work. This meant we could gain access to check on their progress.... not that I would do such a thing!!

Like most people with a garage, we tend to enter the house this way. So the external garage door is opened using a zapper and the internal door has a simple pin-number deadlock.

I suspect the older yale models were prior to the Assaabloy's takeover of August.

The newer models (i.e. the Assure Lock SL) runs on the August modules and Yale Access app instead of Yale Connect/Yale Smart Living. not sure if they are retrofittable onto the older models.

My Assure Lock (YRD256) is connected via the Yale access kit and it popped up via the August integration on HA

Just another plus +1 for Schlage Encode. No need for a stupid z-wave hub with WiFi built in.

I've been intending to load up alexa-remote2 in to Node-Red, as that lets you query devices in your Amazon account. So then I could get the lock state in to HA. I don't know how control will work though.

The old node-red thing I used was "node-red-contrib-alexa-home-skill", but that only gave locking control, and not unlocking as it couldn't handle the PIN requirement from Alexa.

I can't remember the specifics, but there were a few cheap smart locks a while back that would break if you operated the handle while they were un/locking. (Break as in physically break the smart locking mechanism making it a dumb lock)

I tested a display model at Bunnings. It broke.
The Yale assure lock beside it did not break.

I've got the older Yale Assure SL with the Zigbee Network Module and it's great connected up to HA via ZHA. Batteries have lasted about a year so far, and have never had any issues with it.

I have 3 Yale Assure SL, one is the lever version.

One has the Bluetooth module to manage codes/times and unlock/lock door remotely via the App. No issues so far.

@sparkyred I noticed this when trying to find a digital (smart or otherwise) lock for internal doors that simply replaces a standard lever.
