Dlink are going to start charging for it... which annoys me a bit, because if this was not a sustainable model they should not have used it to entice customers in the first instance. 

At least we get a grace period of a year. 

Too often I've bought products with 'lifetime licenses' or come with free value added services that are subsequently revoked. 

The free cloud recording was one reason I bought my dlink webcam.
