I don't know if anybody has been following this.

Do we have anything similar here that this could possibly help being passed into law.

Would be awesome to be able to access schematics and parts.

It seems unlikely, the response from lawmakers to queries about laws with similar effects is that NZ is too small to have any effect on this, the big manufacturers will weigh up the compliance costs with lost sale costs and wiggle around it to the detriment of NZ consumers.

So we'll have to wait until markets with more clout set a precedent. However this seems pretty unlikely, the NY RTR bill is a pure novelty, reference this to a comment from someone involved in the RTR movement who's "watched 100 proposed right to repair bills (literally 100) killed in committee in 40+ states in the last 4 years".

Yeah, I read somewhere recently that the EU is the world's regulator (meant in a good way).

I also hope that it stays that way. I think the controversial opinions of the member states are fairer than lonely decisions by very large, individual states for the whole world, especially if they are also too strongly corporate-driven.

This thread reminded me of this article I read two weeks ago...

I do hope OEMs are more transparent in general though.

"Notably, the bill doesn't pertain to medical devices, home appliances, agricultural and off-road equipment"

So , no right to repair law on home appliances .
That makes a huge loophole for manufacturers .

Theres also the very real issue US farmers are having with not being able to repair their own tractors etc .

Also, if its just 1 US State , so far, can manufacturers just ignore it , being only 1 state out of 50 ?
