Hiya,

After recommendations for fairly priced RC cars for my children (6 and 8 years old), for use at home on the concrete driveway, and probably inside too on carpet.
I think function for them is more exciting than battery charge length.

They've had a few small RCs over the years that got trashed easily.

Currently have a monster truck type RC that can "dance" and has flashing lights which they love (but misplaced the charging cable currently, duh).

One they really loved previously was one that was able to flip over when hitting obstacles. Likely to get this again, but keen for brand/type recommendations :)

Preference is for ones that we can charge ourselves, rather than relying on change of batteries.

Thanks

Whats your budget?

I saw the Flyhal FC600 posted on ChoiceCheapies the other day and I was very tempted. Gets really good reviews!

Because it is likely I'll be getting 2, I would say $250 for both.

Have you thought a bout something like this?

https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/TOYRAS0052/RASTAR-114-Red-JEEP-Wrangler-Rubicon-24GHz-Big-Foo

It takes AA batteries, but if you got a bunch of Eneloop batteries and a charger, you could have almost endless fun  - and they're inexpensive, so if they lose interest, it's not a costly exercise.

I have several RC cars - pretty much all purchased through the likes of Banggood / Gearbe$t etc - from little indoor ones for the kids, to larger ones that will do 90km/h - all loads of fun - and all have turned up safe and sound in NZ.

Also agree re getting one that doesn't need AA batteries as that gets exp after a while.

So I highly recommend exploring these sites eg. this drift one looks pretty cool for $86 NZD incl shipping:

Or this for $47 NZD incl shipping: https://nz.banggood.com/F3-or-F4-1-or-24-2_4G-RWD-RC-Car-Drift-On-Road-Full-Proportional-w-or-ESP-Gyro-Off-Road-Truck-Vehicles-Models-Toys-p-1976014.html?cur_warehouse=CN&ID=6321355&rmmds=CategoryToysPop&rmmds=CategoryPx&trace_id=50111679616088894

If its something they really enjoy, maybe look at something further up the chain. I picked up an Arrma Granite 3S 2nd hand for around $400 a few years ago, came with oodles of spares and batteries. Those things are tough and honk along at a really good clip :D

My local model shop has some decent looking units for $200, cant remember the brand but at the time I did recognize it as being a well known manufacturer. Might pop in their later and can grab a pic.

I second the Carrera cars
I got this for my 6 year old https://www.toyco.co.nz/carrera-rc-116-speed-phantom-ii-9003150116530
It has good battery time and goes fast enough to be interesting and not super fast that becomes too hard.  You can also buy spare parts which is great.

Yes you can get some faster cars for a similar price from places like banggood and there are some really great options.  In the end I went with the above for the age my kid is.  I figure if he does really get into it after a few years then we can look at moving up.

Check out (1) Kevin Talbot - YouTube as well - he comes across as bit of a muppet but he puts his RC cars through their paces :D

He does everything from the Banggood budget range all the way through to top end.
