Hi - thinking about adding a pair of Homepod mini speakers for the Apple TV and not keen on having two USB wall warts sticking out like the proverbial dog's bollocks on the wall. Looking around for a replacement power point with two fast charge 20W USB-C outputs... can't find one.

Anyone know of such a thing?

Here you go. Powerpoint with twin high power USB-C sockets.

CYaBro:

Something like this?

https://tradedepot.co.nz/tdx-classic-double-powerpoint-with-2-x-usb-type-c/

I think so, thanks. I wonder when it says 4.2A max, is that each port or combined?

PDL makes single modules to suit their Iconic series faceplates.

Get a pair of these:

5 VDC, 3 A, 15 W
9 VDC, 2.78 A, 25 W
12 VDC, 2.08 A, 25 W
15 VDC, 1.67 A, 25 W

And find a face place to suit fitting two of them in (will need to check clearances)

Perhaps the 3 gang vertical / horizontal so you can have them switched on the same faceplate.

I'd say that's probably combined so only about 10W per USB port.

That is super low power output, like most of the similar in wall ones.

I did see one that had a USB mech, and a wire to a box that sat in the wall behind it, but it was only a single USB port and I dont recall if it was a C with PD or just a type A with QC.

That looks capable, but I would be replacing a double power point and still need the power points. CYaBro posted something with the form factor I am looking for but need both USB-c sockets to provide 20W simultaneously

I may have to settle for something like this and live with the permanent wall wart:

power point with dual usb-c fast chargers

Perhaps that charger in one of the recessed outlets would get you something you can hide behind a cabinet?

There is probably an issue of passive cooling involved in why you're not seeing many in the high power range: most high power USB supplies (even modern GaN ones) can get pretty warm at full power and they won't have the same ability to convect or radiate that heat away inside insulated wall cavities. You could always run a brush wall plate where you need the cables and put the ugly wall warts somewhere more out of sight?

Looks like a nice setup but a bit more than I want in cost, functionality and and formfactor.

Our TV is "floating" from a ceiling bracket so cabling to a sound bar is hard and there's no natural place to locate (would look odd on the floor). A pair of wireless speakers can be positioned more conveniently and I hope that Airplay will be more stable than Bluetooth. Although the LG does support Airplay I'd be paying for a lot of other stuff as well.

If I was allowed to spend that much I would get a pair of Homepod gen 2 speakers.

It's easy to mount a new face plate with the USB chargers a short distance away from the existing hot point (up down, left or right, within the same dwang and stud. That is electrician work, however.

Why do the chargers have to be high powered?

Aren't the speakers going to be connected to the chargers the whole time ? Do the speakers have an internal battery?

I just always found the concept of two independent and networked speakers originating from one source weird. You’ve got power requirements as you’re finding and then then must be some set up (each time?) to use them as the preferred output source

Is it ? Or is it the maximum charger rating?

Actual power requirement will be dependent on how hard it is working - duty cycle if you will.
