I'm not sure why, but today Facebook has been swamping me with videos and ads for Magsafe chargers and holders.

Maybe because recently I was googling for a tripod/mount for my Samsung S20+??

Which is not Magsafe-able anyway.

However, they do look pretty cool and I was curious as to whether they were actually any good or not, even though they would be of no use to me as I doubt I will ever own an iphone. Curiosity is a terrible burden.

I got one of the Ugreen Magsafe car mounts (this one specifically) and it's wonderful, just attaches itself and triggers charging, it stays on solidly too, which is great.

For my first iPhone (was one of the 8's) I was using one of the Evutec AFIX+ cases (it had magnets built in and an accompanying vent mount tool) which worked great, and the mount tool actually worked with my 12's Magsafe magnets. But it's night and day in favour of the Magsafe style.

I can't justify getting a regular magsafe charger ($$ wise anyway) at the moment, but if my Qi charging pad dies I'll probably look at getting one.

A google for 'Samsung S20+magsafe case' does turn up a page of results...

Have just bought an S25 U and protected it with a good quality Magsafe case (Otter).
Seemed like it may come in useful during the life of the phone.

Does that drag the vents down?  These phones aren't light any more.

Not on my car (Yaris), although I am a little lucky in that the vents are also just above a ridge that can help support the mount if needed Was needed more for the Evutec case/mount, I think the Ugreen is completely clear of it though (haven’t had any issues so haven’t paid attention to it in a while actually).

yeah mine do, I was thinking of printing a support to push the bottom of the magnet part out because the vents can't support a iphone 15

I just have the standard Apple Magsafe charging puck on my bedside table. It's nice to use, but not that much more convenient than a normal USB-C cable.

Induction charging is really much more useful on the Apple Watch than on the iPhone. A sports watch gets exposed to a lot of foreign substances, notably sweat, chlorine and salt water, and I don't like the exposed copper contacts on Garmin's standard charging port because they're vulnerable to corrosion.

So it does, primarily overseas websites I would not be comfortable buying from. tee-moo for one.

Would these cases have to be kept away from swipe cards etc?

I've always thought magnets and electronics did not make the best of bedfellows.

Mrs Code and I each have one of these which sit on our bedside cabinets. We have Standby set up on our iPhones and, when the phones are placed in landscape on the charger, the phones automatically become night clocks. Works great and phones are always charged in the morning.

You still need to buy the Apple MagSafe puck thingy to go in the stand though. The cable is largely hidden in the back of the stand stem.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

So, IF, one put say this case...

https://www.mightyape.co.nz/mn/buy/noco-samsung-galaxy-s20-carbon-magsafe-cover-with-removable-card-wallet-6979890741313/

on a Samsung S20+ 5G,

then it could use magsafe holders and chargers??

And could it also still use non-magsafe wireless chargers? Or they would now be incompatible with the magsafe case?

As long as the placement of the Magsafe ring matches the placement of the Qi coils, it probably will work with Magsafe chargers (I think even they fall back to Qi/Qi2, but not 100% sure), Qi charging stands/pads should still work too (they do with my iPhone - why I haven't gone to a Magsafe replacement for by my bed)
