Hey team, I'm having trouble with a fault smart lock.
I've been super happy with it since I bought it but it has suddenly stopped working alltogether.

I'm purposedly omitting details such as brand/model and timelines so as to not influence you and trying to answer this question I would like to doubled check with the wisdom of the Geekzone crowd.

How long should I expect a Smart Lock to last?

Thanks,

Guillaume

How long have you had it? I'd expect a reasonable time for a smart lock would be several years in CGA perspective.

I've got a Eufy Smart Lock which I purchased just a week before the version with the Camera became available and it's starting to show signs of wear/tear

Based on experience I have had a Schlage Sense smart lock that's work flawlessly for approx 9 years, so I guess I would be expecting at least that.

It would depend on what I spent on it, Cheap tuya thing from kogan or aliex I would be fine with 3 years and then binning it. Paying the absurd price of some of the yale and schlage things I would be spewing if it was dead within 8 years.

Have had a Lenovo Smart Clock 1 for about three years. Still going great although Google Assistant has recently started playing up a bit - but that is Google's fault, not the clock

Pulling a number out of my rear end I would say between 5-10 years depending on how premium the brand/price is.

Thanks folks.

This was not a Ali cheapo and was purchased from a brick and mortar shop.
It's from a well known brand that's playing in that space as well as home security.

I've owned it 3 years until it stopped working, turning itself a mechanical lock only, essentially

Sounds like 3 years is not long enough. Thanks

This thread is about locks (for doors), not clocks :)

if it is a top brand then I would expect it to last many years as they are expensive. Price has a lot to do with it under the CGA as well. Just because it is tech related shouldn’t necessarily mean it should have a shorter life. Apple iPod classics are still usable with the latest iTunes for example.

I had my smart lock replaced after 3 years of use. The chap said they would replace the lock even if it had been 5 years since install.

Price wise, it was a $450 lock. So, not cheap.
It would seem like the company in question is aiming towards a refund in this case, which is great customer service IMO

Potentially but will it leave holes or damage to your door? IANAL but under the CGA if it is a failure of substantial character you can choose refund or replacement or repair.

the lifespan of a lock is how long until some works out how to defeat it reasonably easily eg by someone with low skill.

some of the smart locks have well known flaws.

oops!!  😂
Oh well. In that case my Yale Assure smart lock is about four years old or so. All I have ever had to do is replace the batteries a couple of times.

I also have the Schlage Sense which has been flawless for six years, up until this past week. The lock and the app is fully operational however the keypad is no longer registering keypresses. I performed a full reset but no luck and unfortunately.
