This follows on from my issues with iOS26.2. I upgraded our Apple TV 4K box to TVOS 26.2. Since the upgrade it freezes constantly when a command is pressed on the remote be it the hardware remote or the iPhone remote. The sound through the Sonos system is very muted. None of these were an issue before the upgrade. I have power cycled the box with no success. I will try a reset but that will only reinstall 26.2.  Damn the latest Apple updates are terrible. I am tempted to ditch all my Apple products.

Thankfully I was able to reconnect the Google TV streamer and it is working normally.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

No issues with tvOS 26.2 for me. Perhaps do a restore to reinstall tVOS from scratch?

I also experience the freezing intermittently. It’s extremely frustrating.

All three of my Apple TV 4ks are fine (1st gen, 2nd gen and 3rd gen). YMMV obviously.

Are you both definitely seeing the actual device freezing, or is it the AppleTV (streaming service) issue from over here https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=40&topicid=322916

i.e. is it watching AppleTV (the streaming service) or using other apps too (say TVNZ).

TV services are a bit out of my fields of expertise. I will try Apple TV on the Google Streamer, TV and iMac. Before update the AppleTV box was working ok.

TV services is just which app(s) you are using.

The freezes I get are UI navigation when trying to select an App, trying to select UI elements and inside Apps such as Prime, Disney and TVNZ+.

Tried rebooting the remote? https://support.apple.com/en-nz/102569

Had an issue once with an ATV going crazy and not responding properly - was the remote sending it garbage.

I shall try that. I currently have the remote charging to ensure that it’s fully charged.

We have been having some minor issues with the remote (needed to be reset) and ARC (finding and losing homepods for audio) which weren’t an issue prior to tvos26.

I have tried all the suggestions and sadly no success. Maybe hardware issue that has manifested from the update stress? maybe just an example of the Apple updates SNAFU

I haven't had any freezing, but ever since going to TVOS 26 a long press on my universal remote behaves the same as a short press. Very frustrating when there are several actions that require a long press, I now need to use the Apple TV remote to do it.

Not had any issues with 26 on my ATV. I think my remote has developed a fault though. When traversing right with the right arrow press it almost always skips 2 spots instead of one. Resetting the remote doesn't resolve this.

We've had some issues where the box doesn't seem to respond to the remote for a few seconds then all of a suddne goes haywire while it catches up with all of the instructions it has received. Maybe that's just my impatience?

That is typical behaviour for crappy software that has run out of RAM and does a garbage collection before it can process the next command.  Better software avoids doing big garbage collections taking quite a few seconds by using better RAM allocation strategies and doing background garbage collection.
