That broken thread was mine. It's strange it did not post correctly.

I was trying to ask if anyone in the Geekzone community had brought one in from the states and had it working here yet?

I have been looking at getting an eBook reader for my wife who usually takes a stack of paperbacks when we go on holiday.

I looked at the Kindle, but it is bulky due to the keyboard on the bottom, which is not really needed when you are just reading a book. It is intended for typing URLs so you can use the wireless connectivity available in the US via Sprint's CDMA network. Also, you can look up words from the dictionary, or make notes. In other words, the kind of things you do on a laptop...

We decided that just a simple reader would do. SONY have their PRS-505 series and Bookeen have their US$350 Cybook, which actually uses hardware made by Netronix. So, I started looking at other manufacturers who use the same Netronix hardware but sell at a cheaper price.

One of these is the COOL-ER @ US$249 as sold here: http://www.coolreaders.com/specifications.asp

They are about to launch an online book store here: http://www.coolerbooks.com/default.asp

If anybody has other suggestions concerning eBook readers, I would be interested to look at alternative designs.

Thanks Grant,

Good luck with your hunt, I'd be interested to hear how it works out for you and what you think of your purchase.

The Kindle appeals to me but I suspect obtaining content may prove to be hard outside the states.. certainly all the wireless features disappear once you leave their shores :-(
