I was Googling for a portable DVD player to put in the car so the kids would have something to watch during long trips, and came across Chinavision (www.chinavision.com) who are selling ones starting at $130+.

Has anyone had any dealings with Chinavision, and if so, how would you rate them and the goods? Also, how much would I be likely to incur in import duties and GST?

One problem with foreign dvd players is the region, if they are multi region its fine but alot of them are different to NZ's Region 4 for dvds

heres one from dse its $199 but its guaranteed to work with Nz dvds and has a warranty

Thanks boby55. Should have mentioned that the model I spotted was region free and plays most sorts of disks. There's no way I putting originals in the car for two kids to wreck, so it was important that it played DVD-R. Then it they do screw it up, I still have the original. Trouble with the DSE model is it's region 4 only, but I suppose since I'll be using backups, it won't matter.

One word about Chinavision   DON't...........  I just ordered/received a MP3 player/FM recorder.  It boasted of being touchscreen and state of the art.   It turned out to be sluggist and completely UNusable for recording multiple lectures I wanted to save and download later.  Also had to go online for further instructions and undates.  The instruction manual is UNreadable as well.

I informed them, they immediately sent back e-mails, admitting the slowness of the unit, but refuse togive a refund.  Suggested I sell the unit on E-bay.  Sure..... pass on to somebody else this unit, now wouldn't that be a kind thing......Tongue out

A word to wise...........stay away from Chinavision!!

Hi I just had a look what people have to say in wholesale directory about chinavision and here are the reviews.

I contacted the sales department at Chinavasion.com and had a reply back within 24 hours. The sales rep was quick to walk me through the registration process. The main method of contact was via email. The rep showed me some of the highlights and sent me additional information about there business.

Site
The website is fairly easy to use.
Site offers product reviews
Bulk pricing when you register
Shipping costs show up at checkout
Prices fair
1 year warranty minimum some companies will offer a longer warranty
5- 10 day shipping
Payment by PayPal or bank transfer

Like all Chinese importers shipping can eat you alive. In order to buy from this site and see profits you will need to buy in bulk. They also only accept PayPal and bank transfer for payment options. This can limit your buying power and security. I rated them a 4 due to shipping costs and payment options. They do have good feedback and seem to be a good company.

I've ordered from them twice, and shall continue to do so. Their prices are great, the quality of the goods is superb, it doesn't matter about the deivery time, if you advertise their products on eBay, then put the item location as China, then the buyer will know it may take some time to arrive. Delivery times are not that bad, now they've upgraded their website it is easier to navigate, the only suggestion I would make is for them to put the delivery charge based on your registered address next to the items, rather than add them to the cart and proceed to the checkout to find out the costs. I think they are superb and would recommend them to anyone.

Great supplier.

Ordered many items from them, they have some problems in speed, but still the best source in China for electronics.

I tried some other wholesale suppliers in China and I am happy to come back to Chinavasion and only use them.

They have their own QC and checking all the goods before send out. Very important when buying from China.

Very great team!

Many thanks to Chinavasion.

In last weeks. Chinavasion have a lot of delays with orders.
I dropship with chinavasions but now i am looking for another site.
The products are good (have problems with 2 of 54) but the delays are not good for ebay seller for sample.
I continue with chinavasion if their speed up their delays.

We ordered and paid 4 products on 14/08/2007. My costumer received them on 03/09/2007. This is like 20 days but we have to count only 16 days due time work. For our client was 20 days anyway.

We think those things could happen when you live in a country that is at the opposite side of the world, we mean too far away from China.
We are patient, so its ok for us.

We are more interested in excellent quality and serious warranty and Chinavasion is really very close of that reality. Excellent support, gadgets and prices.

5 stars for quality and 3 stars for delay. Average, 4 stars.

KEEP GOING CHINAVASION

I have placed 2 orders with Chinavasion.  My first order was handled perfectly.  My sample m4 and mp3 players arrived quickly in good condition.

I placed a second larger order with them for more players.  This order was delayed over three weeks to ship.

Chinavasion would not allow me to cancel to purchase the goods elsewhere.

When this order finally shipped, it was received with substituted colors from the players I ordered.  This substitution was done without my approval.

In total, I bought 5 mp4 players from them. 3 of those failed in the first couple months of ownership.

Still waiting on getting any returned items from them.  I have moved onto another provider

Also here are forum posts I found there

Do not deal with Chinavasion

They made me wait two weeks to find out that a camera is out of stock and I was only told because I was chatting to someone on live help. The buyer is furious so Ihave to cancel. I have another order with them that has been processed a week ago and still not shipped out and said can take up to 20 days to get there. RUBBISH
not worth the time

I had similar trouble, I ordered 5 keyboards only to be told 3 weeks later that they were out of stock of the ones I ordered (the ones advertised) so they sent me an email saying they only had white ones left so I had to email my customers to see if they would accept the white ones and by this time they were furious at the time taken but agreed to take white, so I sent a email back to chinavasion saying ok but get them delivered asap so two weeks later they were finally shipped it took nearly a week to get to my now ex customers and half of them were broken I also had to supply my customers phone number before they would ship, so in all from when the customers paid it took approx 6 weeks and a lot of hassle to get to where they were going needless to say Out of it I got 5 lots of negative feedback on ebay so my reputation was damaged and lost 5 customers all because of chinavasion

Just a tip guys..

One of the bad things about using a dropshipper is that you have no prior knowledge of the actual quality of the product or the shipping time. This can be a killer to your business..

One option that you do have if you are selling alot of a particular item is to purchase a few and keep them on hand at your home in case you get the dreaded "on backorder" or "out of stock" notice..

This way you can still get the item to you customer without any delay and then replinish your item when the dropshipper gets his stock back up..

I know that this only works when you are selling a particular item well, but it can save you alot of headaches...

There are more posts there but from what I can see some people are having good and some people having not so good experience with them.

Sorry If the post is abit messy I had to remove all the links as they are pointng to a members area.

Hope this helps

Good Luck
