After getting horribly frustrated with always having the same songs on my small mp3 player, I decided to have a play.

My idea was to get to the Ipod experience, where you have an ever changing selection of random music.

So with about 15spare minutes, two of us made a script to do just that! Now every time I put my player into my usb port - all existing music on it is removed and is replaced with a completely random selection.

So now I never have the same songs on my player.

Check out s2.co.nz/projects/mp3_tools for a few more details.

So I thought it might be useful to some others as well?

The code isn't finished, and certainly isn't pretty, but it does work. It runs as an Excel macro so you will need excel to get it to work. Also, you need the sort of player that shows up as another drive (not one that need special software to load songs).

I hope to have slightly more user friendly version available in the next couple of weeks, but if you now a bit about vba scripts and would like an advance copy then drop me an email :-)

Once again, id like to remind you the script is just a quick and dirty hack, its not pretty but it does its job.

I knew there would be something out there - but after 10 min searching I came up with nothing, so decided to spend 10min making it, rather than wasting another 10 searching :-)

Looks like this one wil be a lot more reliable than the on Ive made :-)

Cheers!

hey, if you wrote something cross-platform, you'd be my hero.
i haven't found anything as nifty as shuffler that works on *-nix, but i might not have looked everywhere yet.
