I recently transferred my iTunes account from an old computer to a new computer. When opening iTunes on the new computer, it shows all of my music. My iPod also has all the music on it. The problem is on the new computer, about 90% of the music will not play on the computer. There is a question mark icon to the left of the song title on the iTunes screen. When I attempt to play, it says the file can not be located. What can I do to solve this?
Close iTunes. Download notepad++ (or any other notepad editor that isn't the default notepad) because system default notepad isn't very good with loading large files (my itunes library is 26.5mb and it takes notepad a fair amount of time to open it), Make a backup copy of "iTunes Music Library.xml" (just in case) Open "iTunes Music Library.xml" Replace the beginning of all your filepaths (filepath being "Locationfile://localhost/E:/iTunes/" in my case) with the updated folder location.
This should fix the problem, assuming you just moved your itunes music folder.
I am not sure I follow you with this? The only music that seems to play on the new computer is anything I purchased from iTunes. All of the music I uploaded from CDs seems to not be working. I did transfer both my iTunes folder and the iTunes library (.xml file) to the new computer. Any additional help would be great!
