Hi im henry,
you know how windows 7 has voice recognition, imagine having microphones in all rooms in your house, all with individual speekers driven by some massive sound card, because windows 7 supports multi outputs, do you think it would be possible to have multi room voice recognition, e.g one person in the bedroom could say 'play music by kings of leon' and kings of leon music would start playing, and then someone in the kitchen could say ' play music by la roux' and la roux music would play in the kitchen, do you think this would be possible without running a computer for each room?

My guess is Windows 7 speech does not support multiple channels of voice recognition, so effectively you would have only one soundcard input with multiple mics attached. Also you may need to preamp the mics depending on cable length.

For output, multiple soundcards would be the best solution. Buy a cheap #2 and experiment.

Then you need to set up the commands to get your media player to output on the sound device you name with the media you command/select for that sound device. Most players will handle that.

But, what you really need is a voice recognition service capable of getting input from multiple sound devices so each room can be controlled at the same time.

Sounds like a fun project.
