Hi There,

I am planning to buy Kindle to primarily use it as a PDF reader. I am unable to decide whether Kindle WiFi or Kindle DX. Could you please suggest which one to go for? WiFi or DX one?

How many days does Amazon take for delivery to Auckland if I order through GeekZone Kindle page?
Does Amazon charge shipping cost for delivery to NZ?

If you want it for PDF, i would recommend to go the DX. Zooming in on PDFs to make the text the right size to read is kinda clunky, so if you go with a bigger screen then you are less likely to have to zoom in to read text. If you are gonna mostly use it for ebooks, then might as well go for the Kindle 3 (what you call 'wifi', the latest generation with a smaller screen).

The geekzone link is only an affiliate link, so wont have any effect on the time it takes to ship to you. When i ordered mine it took 3 days from Nevada to Christchurch, but i would imagine this would be the lower bound of possiblities.

You can go through the checkout process to find out the shipping cost before you have to confirm payment (alhtough you might have to enter credit card details). From memory it was $20-$50 NZD, not sure exactly

Yep, PDF on the regular Kindle isn't idea;. Go for the DX - your eyes will thank you.

As said, delivery could be as low as three days, I got mine in four. But if you buy just before Chrismas it can take up to six weeks. It all depends.

Yes, it charges shipping. There's no free lunch.

Delivery has been great for me also. I just ordered a Kindle on Friday evening around 11 at night (did choose priority shipping which is like an extra 10 dollars i think), it got picked up on Saturday morning, went from Phoenix to LA processing centre on Sunday morning and left LA for Auckland in the afternoon. It arrived Monday morning and cleared customs by 7am. Arrived by courier today so their shipping is speedy and DHL have prompt email notifications.
(It practically shipped in two days which is QUICK)

I have never used a DX, but I have a kindle3 and I *do not* recommend it for .PDFs

You can only zoom to 4 preset magnifications and then navigating the zoomed pdf is a PITA.

Otherwise it is a great device - I'm very happy with it. But pdf's = no!

Yep, my kindle 3 special offers is useless for pdfs. It reminds me of web browsing on my old nokia e71

pretty expensive at Dick Smith in comparison to having one shipped from Amazon.
Looking at Dick Smith delivery dates - you'd also get it quicker from Amazon.

Thank you all for taking time to reply me. Based on your feedback and other research I did on internet, I decided not to buy Kindle. I would rather wait for couple of months to get iPad 3.

Kindle DX seems good for pdf reading but it's expensive and I dont want to spend big money on Kindle as I am waiting for next iPad.

Meanwhile, I will be busy playing with HTC 7 Trophy I won in NZTechPodcast Windows Phone 7 Treasure Hunt contest!
