iTunes is not available in NZ indefinitely.

Although, I have recently been introduced to www.allofmp3.com and the service is very nice and a lot of selection. As well DRM-free music and multiple format. If you decided to use AllofMP3, be sure to get allTunes (www.alltunes.com). One thing you do need to be aware though, once it is downloaded then that's it, make sure you download to the right computer. Although having DRM-free file is helpful as you can then copy to the rightful location.

Just a quick word on allofmp3.

They are believed by many (including the music industry) to be illegal.

They operate out of Russia, where a loophole in the law classes selling tracks over the internet as being covered by a radio license.

Thus, allofmp3 pay a radio license, but they don't pay per track.

This leaves the music industry out of pocket, as they are not receiving money per track as they are with a system like iTMS.

Personally, I don't use allofmp3 or the iTMS, I get all of my music from 'other' sources. ;)

Are you trying to access the Australian or the US store? The Australian store accepted New Zealand credit cards when it first opened, but more recently there have been reports of New Zealand credit card holders being unable to even open user accounts.

The only other option is to find someone overseas who is willing and able to send you iTMS gift vouchers.

Or you could Buy CD's and rip them, You get perfect digital copies of the master tapes, You can then compress how you choose for maximum quality and no restrictions! I hve so far been unimpressed with Digital delivery music, especially WMA (windows media) aac is somwhat better but still lacks a lot of punch.

Of course, when you can't get a track, you are forced to hit the "legal" or illegal filesharers after trying real groovy and markbecks.

Buying CDs is all very well for people who like to buy complete albums or collections but for those of us who like to buy music on a song-by-song basis, it's not economical to buy a whole CD just to get one or two songs off it. Personally, I'm not regularly buying music at all at the moment because CDs don't suit my buying habits, but I'm not willing to download music because I'm not willing to tolerate DRM or the poor sound quality.

Those who hate DRM but still have a conscience might want to buy their music from a legitimate download site, and then download the same unrestricted content from allofmp3.com. That way, you're getting DRM-free files, but not really 'stealing' the music. Of course, that will only work for as long as allofmp3.com remains alive.

Do you really have to buy songs if you can get them for free?? Just download imesh software!! Its the only legal P2P software where you can get any song you want. Well i use limewire but dont really know is it legally approved

You can't get commercially distributed music for 'free'. You can steal it, but you wouldn't do that now, would you?

You should not believe them. The software is 100% legal, not the content.

You can use P2P, any P2P actually. If they provide the software for free, then it's legal. The software is legal. Using P2P is legal. Sharing the songs is not legal.

Is it clear now? They have this in their Help section:

For goodness sake, they did not answer the question, and you should not use the software to trade or share songs.

There's no legal free sharing music service.

The TOU states that all you need is a credit card with an Australian billing address. This theoretically means that you can use the Australian iTMS if you are resident in another country, provided that you have a credit card of Australian origin.

As I mentioned in my earlier post, it was originally possible for holders of New Zealand credit cards to open accounts on the Australian iTMS when it first opened, provided that they were willing to 'bend the truth' when providing details of their credit card's billling address. From what I understand, that loophole has now been closed, which would have been pretty easy to do since the credit card issuer is determined by the first four digits of a credit card number, so they only had to place a block on all credit cards issued by New Zealand banks.
