I have just ordered a second Kindle this time a Kindle 4 however just after doing so I read a users review which mostly was comparing the screen and the view that the K3 screen seemed to have better contrast to the K4. There seemed to be a number of other people that agreed.
Now after a bit of reading it seems that it may be just variation between screens which is the same between different K3's as well but I am interested to hear of people here that have both K3 and K4's and if they have noticed any difference. I must say the K3 we got had a slightly darker screen then I expected. Still quite readable but just not quite the "like paper" I was hoping and it would be, of some concern if the K3 is darker again. Yes I know they are supposedly the same screen however it is possible that they are manufactured at a different plant or even by a different manufacturer.

Well I can answer my own question now. I received the Kindle 4 and did a side by side comparison both in shade and in direct sunlight with the keyboard and cannot see any difference what so ever.
I can see the affect of the new page turn only refreshing every few pages however. I am unsure if it bothers me or not. Certainly it is nice to only have a full refresh every so often and I am guessing there is some saving in battery there but it does leave faint marks behind which getting towards the full refresh become quite noticeable. Similar I would suggest to seeing the text though the page on a traditional book. Time will tell I guess as to which I prefer.

I'm planning on buying a Kindle but not sure on which one.

Do you use the keyboard much? If so for what?

Part of me wants to wait for the Touch to available world wide (ie here in NZ)

Part of me thinks: Why wait?

Part of me wonders if the key board would be a good choice.

Didn't anybody tell you I was a hacker?

Some points to keep in mind.
Keyboard -
2 X the memory (actually more as you have to minus the OS)
2 X the battery life
Audio
Wide selection cases including with kindle powered reading light.
Option of 3G
and of course a keyboard

4 -
Cheap!
Lighter
Smaller
Limited range of cases at least at this stage, no integrated reading light.

I have to say that having used the on screen keyboard to put in wireless keys etc. on the 4 it is a PITA compared to the keyboard. However it does come down to what you will use it for. I got the 4 for myself and decided that I really just want it to read books. I could live with out buying books from the device. Just means I need to plan ahead a bit, hardly difficult. I do not really have a interest in 3G. Once again just plan ahead. So for me I was happy to loose the keyboard BUT if I was travelling a lot then I can say now that I would have gone for the keyboard for all its extras.

I have the keyboard Kindle 3 3G. Bought it about 2 months ago.

Would much rather have the new Kindle with no keyboard. I dont use the keyboard much at all. I just read books on it, and do 99% of my Amazon browsing on my PC or Android phone.

W/out a keyboard, Amazon browsing would be 100% PC + Android, and I would be happy with that.

The 4 also has a faster cpu and faster page turns. My 4 and 3 screens look the same. Both fantastic.

@Nety if the ghosting bothers you, you make it refresh every page in the settings. They added the option in the new firmware.
