I have an original KOBO. I find it often forgets where I stopped reading, putting me at the beginning of the chapter many pages away when I restart. I am presently reading The Return of Sherlock Holmes, one of the on-board books.
Is this a fault or a "feature" of early e-books. I have raised this in a TradeMe forum but had no answers. Hoping Geekzone readers are smarter.

Hi, do you know what version of the firmware you are running? Its in the device information screen or something worded to that effect under settings. If you download the kobo desktop from http://www.kobobooks.com/desktop and use it instead of the whitcoulls one it will offer you firmware updates. I have two kobos and don't see this behaviour (do get the odd bit of strangeness here and there) with version 1.8.3 of the firmware. Most of my problems occur if I let the battery go too flat.

I, too, have an original Kobo, with the latest firmware.
Everytime I turn it on, it goes back to the library page list and I have to reselect the book again. When I select the book, it does go back to where I was reading, but it's a pain to have to re-select the book every time I turn it on, rather than just being able to go right back to where I left reading off like the Kindle (that I recently purchased) does.

I'm glad I'm not alone with this problem. Yes, I upgraded the firmware to 1.8.3 as soon as I registered. I guess We will have to live with this problem. I tried the KOBO web site but that was as much use as many other "help" services.

Perhaps it is an issue with the onboard books, I've never read one of them... The closest symptom I have had is it occasionally returns to the start of the page I was on; -if the font size is large a page takes 3 pages on the kobo so I might go back 2 clicks. I've never had it round me up to the start of the chapter. You could always use calibre to delete the built in books then reload the copy from project gutenberg and see if it behaves. The other thing is I've hosed the sqlite database so many times on mine that you might have a corrupt database whereas due to rebuilds mine may have come out without the problem.
