Hi there, am currently thinking of purchasing a Ebook reader (I currently don't know to much about eReaders so would appreciate opinions and suggestions please). I have approximately $200 to spend. Don't mind about not having the 3G, have suffice Wifi service available.

Went and had a look at Kobu at Whitcoulls and I don't if it was just the one they had on display but it seemed quite slow to respond to touches. Also had a look at the Kindle at DSE, am currently thinking of going with the Kindle over the Kobu but am I right in thinking I should get it via Amazon than DSE?

Also thinking after reading this forum of going with the Kindle touch, using the third-party shipping service?

If you get a kindle touch, the only way you will get one for under $200 is to order the ad-supported version from amazon (You won't notice the ads and it fully works within New Zealand).

Everyone will have their own personal opinion to which is best, when I was looking to buy a e-reader in mid December I only considered kindles because they tied into my amazon account seamlessly for e-book downloads. Ordering a Kindle from Amazon instead of Dick Smith is around $15 cheaper shipping included from memory, you need to remember though if anything goes wrong with it and you need to return it then it has to be sent back to the USA.

On the other hand a Kobo Touch at Whitcoulls at the moment is around the $200 mark, so about $15 more expensive than the Kindle touch w/ ads, but you will have a local point for warranty or if you need any help with it. In regards to the Kobo e-book range I can't really comment on where you get the books from or the cost, but as I said above everyone has their own personal opinion about which is better.

Other people may be able to help you with a more balanced view but I only have experience in the Kindle Touch department.

I've found it great, easy to purchase books on amazon, on either the kindle or on a computer and then they download to the kindle when you connect it to wifi so relatively seamless.

I used comgateway, total shipping price to NZ from their warehouse via DHL was $35 USD roughly, because I had a $15 coupon to discount it, the other choice is shipito.com, who offer a wider range of shipping options (usps, ups, fedex, dhl etc). I have used shipito before but I needed my kindle in a hurry before Christmas so used Comgateway and amazon overnight shipping to get it to their warehouse. Also if it is for someone else make sure you tick "send as a gift" or something like that on the order page, it means it will ship unregistered, otherwise they ship tied to your acccount (it is still easy to deregister them but it's one thing less to worry about if it's a gift).

Sorry if I forget to answer anything, also read the thread I originally posted for more info on comgateway.
