Has anyone ever ordered one of these? It's an online-only deal. Mine was delivered this morning and it has a stuffed keyboard. I got a bit of a run around from DSE. I spoke to their support, who told me to call Online Sales. They in turn told me they're not authorised to deal with after-sales support for refurbished Kindle and I have to talk to their Commercial department. The Commercial dept is in Australia so I had to wait before they open. Once I got hold of someone her accent was nearly incomprehensible! She was quick to tell me I had to deal with Online Sales, and was about to immediately transfer me there had I not abruptly and loudly stop her! I told her Online Sales has actually sent me there and she was puzzled about that.

It seems they know nothing about refurbished Kindle support, only that these units are supposed to be sold only in Oz! She asked me to email them my invoice and they'll get back to me within a few days... WOW!! That's just nuts! In the end she just took my phone number and Invoice number, and will call me back after discussing it with her team leader.

Has anyone bought one of these units? If so, how's your experience so far? This was my first time ordering from DSE online and it has been a nightmare of a morning getting the run-around.

Is it that much cheaper than buying a new one online through us or from DSE in store? I wouldn't trust refurbished if not directly from Amazon...

It's NZ$150 for the Wifi unit so yes, I think it's enough of a price difference for me. I can't actually find any Wifi only units available on Amazon.

As an update, I was suitably impressed by DSE Australia's response. The team leader is away on holiday but she responded to her email. They have sent out a new unit from their warehouse, which should be here by tomorrow morning. I just slap the return sticker on the old unit and hand it over to the courier!

It turned out I was unlucky enough to be the first case in NZ. These units have been on sale in Oz for some time and after googling around the general response form customers have been very positive. Very few units have arrived faulty - just bad luck on my part! Let's hope the replacement will be fine.

I brought a new wifi only one from Amazon using the Geekzone link a couple of months ago. It cost me $157.76 landed so $150 for a refurbished unit does not sound very good to me.

Edit just realised you mentioned the keyboard was faulty. Mine was the Kindle 4 not the Kindle Keyboard. For a Keyboard model $150 is a good price!

You are getting the run around. Ask to escalate it to management, or take it into a local DSe and ask for a refund iof you don't want another. Very poor that it was DOA, as they should have been tested fully and be as good as a new one. YOu are probably better to buy online from here, as amzon would have helped you in this situation.

The exchange rate is probably better now too. Its over 80cents again, so a good time to buy from the US. Just a pity the touch ones aren't avaliable to nzers.

That's overpriced! You can get it cheaper through our Amazon Kindle order page directly from Amazon, or pay $10 more and get a new one from Dick Smith - with warranty.

My replacement Kindle arrived early this morning, and it's all working well. Last night I received a call from DSE's Online Sales department, inquiring if I have had this whole thing sorted. Possibly they read about the problems you were having on here. They may not have wanted it back, I have found companies sometimes can't be bothered getting the defective item back. But I guess a broken kindle is of no use to you anyway.
