Hello everyone,

I'm new in the NZ workmarket and I'm looking for some useful tips where to look for jobs etc. I'd prefer to do some project working in the IT-sector and I'm currently living in Auckland (Mangere bridge).
I'm already familiar with Seek, Trademe, Manpower, Tradestaff and Hays. But is there some other sites/services which I should check out?
I have B.Sc (Finnish 4 year Engineering degree from Technical University) from IT and working history with Wireless networks, LAN/WAN networking, customer care, training and IT-sales. I also have experience from blue-collar jobs and I tried as an entrepreneur(created some nice geekdevice..) back in the days.

I have IRD-number, Working visa and bank account already, so now I need to find some work :)

I always use Seek for job hunting. It's the most professional jobseeker's website, in my opinion, but occasionally there are jobs advertised on Trademe that I haven't seen on Seek so it's good to keep an eye on both.

There are recruitment agencies that specialise in IT jobs. I would enrol in all of them if it was me, just in case something comes up (do a Google search for IT recruitment companies - there are lots of them). Don't forget that recruiters are salespeople who care primarily about their commission, so they'll try to get you into the first job available rather than helping you to find your dream job.

Does it have to be in Auckland? Chch and Wgtn have jobs too.

I can tell by your writing style that English isn't your first language. It's really important that your CV contains only perfect English. Reading a lot of novels will improve your English.

Also, the website that shows all the government jobs that are available is:
https://jobs.govt.nz/

Many government agencies will not use recruitment agencies because of the high fees they charge, so it's worth checking this website.

http://www.absoluteit.co.nz/ are one of the leading IT recruitment agencies. You could also check out LinkedIn. Most jobs will be advertised on Seek and Trade Me but its not uncommon to find roles exclusively on only one platform.

Another thing is HR staff on LinkedIn from large IT related companies (Like Trade Me for example) openly say "we are always looking for X, Y, Z, send us your cv", so you could go on the front foot and identify companies you're interested in working with and contact them directly, or via LinkedIn.

I think your written English is pretty good, but maybe get a Kiwi to look over your CV and cover letters to ensure there are no opportunities for misunderstanding.
