Over the past few weeks I have had 3 interviews for a 'dream job'. The third and final interview was last Thursday and they said they would wrap up interviews on Friday, sleep on it over the weekend and make their decision 'early next week'. I think the final interview went well, definitely some things I could have said better, but that's the way interviews go.

'early next week' is about to pass and I haven't heard anything. I don't think I'm successful but until I know for sure I'm a nervous wreck. I can hardly concentrate at work.

I think I will follow up tomorrow if I hear nothing by 10am.

What would you guys do in this situation? I'm trying my hardest to not contact them now.

Wait until tomorrow around 2pm. If no word, then drop them a line.
Good luck :)

Thursday? Crikey I'll be a mess by then, lol.

A colleague said I'm a worry wart and to be patient. She's probably right. Argh.

If it was me, I would  follow them up, as early next week would mean either monday or tuesday. Maybe they are waiting for you to call, to see how well you listen and it is a form of a test?

If you are the right candidate they will call you, try not to worry about it, it's out of your hands now. I'd be unimpressed if a candidate followed me up like that.

Best Wishes for your role!

I agree I hate it as well and conatcting won't change any decision that may have been made. Generally you make an offer to a person but don't contact the others on short list until the chosen person accepts, not saying this is the case here.

Why weren't you be impressed? If they had said early the next week, and that time period has passed, then it is fair IMHO to contact them. If they still haven' made a decision, they should at leas contact them they they still need a few days to make a decision. The problem is that often people that go for interviews never hear back. People need to move on, and may have other options, so  it is probably not fair for them to keep them hanging on. The fact that the employer has had to interview them more than twice shows that the OP has invested a lot of there time into it, and I am sure they were on time.

It sounds like the OP just wants to move on, so want to know either way.

yes they do need to move on but from my experience those on short list will get contacted, if not then not a great place to start with. If you have offeredd the role to someone and waiting to get contract signed what do you ring and tell the others, we can't make our minds up or we have offerwd it to someone else so if they say no we'll have another look at you.

Exactly, be patient there are also good reasons for a delay (or at least not bad reasons). If it's your dream job, then just find something to do to consume your time and attention and wait it out. Good things come to those who wait.

OK, that is fair enough. I guess the OP can also judge whether it is wise to follow it up or not. Guess it is a gamble if it would annoy them or not as it depends on the person, and would depend on how they asked.

I've had jobs that the company wanted to "move quickly on" take months to result in an offer.

I also know someone who got a job because she did call and ask.

Plenty of things can happen to delay a decision or contact. If it's a dream job, it's possibly worth sitting quietly and waiting for.

I personally wouldn't contact them, BUT, it's your future and should be your choice what you do. I try to never put myself in a position where I can blame someone else for losing me a job.

Thanks for all of the feedback, it's much appreciated. My gut feeling is that they have their preferred candidate and I'm second or third choice. I'd just like to be put out of my misery, lol...

BUT, throught the process there have been several delays so its not inconceivable that 'early' next week becomes middle or late next week.

I have sent formal 'follow ups' after the first and second interviews, 'thanks for your time, I'm excited by the opportunity' etc....typical stuff that is important, imo. But now we're at the final hurdle my follow up probably can't add anything to the decision making process. They know I'm keen.

I will be patient and assume the worst; anything else will be a pleasant surprise. Another interesting opportunity presented itself today so maybe things will work out as the universe intends.
