Hi,

I am looking for a good MS-SQL DBA that has experience in transferring MS-SQL database and set-up process for migration to AWS.

If you have experience in this or know anyone who does this please PM me?

This will be project based so it will be a good weekend / after hours extra income for you.

Thanks.

I'm not a DBA but I'm a certified AWS solution architect (associate level - difficult exam!). I doubt I'm quite the right person for the job, but PM me if you're interested or can't find someone better.

Are you migrating to an RDS instance, or to your own MSSQL cluster on standard EC2 (or EC2 w/SQL) instances? What is the source version of MSSQL?

Questions like this are why they probably need an AWS person as well as a DBA. Knowing the architecture of the whole solution helps make choices. Knowing if they're an existing AWS customer would also help. With RDS there's also BYOL (bring your own license) or have it included. Things like firewall rules, routes, reserved instance options, etc, need to be considered.

and have you thought about migrating the database to Azure SQL Database?  Happy to talk to you about that if its of interest (sorry, had to drop that in there :P)

looking for a DBA, could try scale message through someone like Dave Dustin, Martin Catheral, or Paul White, on twitter.

one other place you could try is the SQL Server User Groups:

We will be migrating to a EC2 w/SQL. Using SQL 2008 R2.

Thanks for your interest. Will definitely contact you if we still are not making any significant progress in a few days.
