My wife is at the reference stage for a role at Vodafone (Wellington primarily, & Christchurch) as an HR Coach. Sounds like the role involves 'coaching' team leaders and managers in 'squads' or similar on HR practices. She's an HR business partner currently.

I'm just looking for feedback on Vodafone as an employer and place to work.

She's also received a verbal offer for another role, quite different but still senior HR in nature. Vodafone looks like the more fun and interesting place to work; the other is a govt department.

She's unsure and sees VF as the riskier option given the role is quite different to her usual HR roles. VF are paying significantly more, but money is not her primary motivation. Culture, fit and flexibility are her main drivers.

Any advice would be great!

Thanks :)

The big two telcos restructure every couple of years, causing massive stress for all involved. A mate if a mate was with one of them for 9 years and went through three restructuring rounds. Each time he was made redundant and had to reapply for his job. Each time he was successfully rehired, but two of these times he was only reconfirmed with a week to go on his redundancy notice. His positions were in the $90-$100k pay region, I believe.

He loved the job and the team but moved on because the stress on him and his family was too much.

Ask her new employer if they are going to offer her the Collective Agreement and see what their response is, then you should be able to make your decision.
