This has happened with a few of my wall chargers with a USB slot. They work fine for a while but then all of a sudden go into this weird mode where thet connect-disconnect-connect-disconnect-connect-disconnect at less than half a second intervals. I've tried all sockets but no help. The only thing that doesn't produce the same outcome is when I plug it into my laptop (MBP). This is also independent of the device - the same happens with iPhone and iPad. Is there a weakness in wall chargers or what could be causing this? My latest charger is only 2 weeks old and I refuse to believe it's 'wear & tear'. Thanks!

Are these genuine Apple chargers or 3rd party?
What about the USB cables?

I've had similar before, where the phone would start charging when I went to bed, but it would only be about 20% in the morning. I found cleaning out the hole that the plug goes into helped. It's amazing how much fluff ends up in there. I used a pin to pry it out, I don't know if that's the best idea or not, but it did work for me.

Genuine, and the newest one only 2 weeks old.

The funny thing is that they work fine for a while, and then all of a sudden this starts.

Hi - I don't quite understand which unit you're referring to. AFAIK the type of wall charger that is supplied to charge iPhones or iPads is very different to the units that charge laptops. iPhone chargers could either be a blocky unit with a 'missing section' where the various options of power point prongs are inserted, or a small compact rectangle unit with fixed prongs - which output 5W, or iPad chargers are the blocky two-part units that either output 10W or 12W. Laptop chargers seem to be from 45W to 85W from memory.
Personally I haven't had any of my numerous Apple iOS device chargers misbehave... but I have had cables that have been abused fail, plus (as above) fluff & debris get into the ports that interrupt the connection.

When I use my laptop to charge via USB port, the devices (iPhone & iPad) charge just fine. When I plug the USB cable to the wall charger block and that to any wall socket, that's when the problems start. So I have concluded that the blocks must have some sort of a problem.

Vodafone, upon purchasing the iPhone. The other chargers have also always come from reputable sources in the device package.

And again I must stress, it worked for about 2 weeks, and the problem started today. The other block had a same pattern but just took much longer to start misbehaving.

Aaah, thanks for clarifying. Yep - we could assume that the cable and iDevice are functioning OK if they charge correctly from a laptop USB port. Sorry, I can't shed any light on why you've had bad luck with the chargers, but would suggest returning them to Vodafone.

Use a process of elimination: charger, cable, device. Can you use the same cable with the laptop and the wall charger?

I guess I should then. Was wondering if this problem was wider-spread with the new iPhone 6 packages or just at my end. Time will tell! Thanks for all your replies, will keep you posted RE: replacement.

Something left field - Try this charger http://www.jaycar.co.nz/productView.asp?ID=MP3666&w=car+charger&form=KEYWORD As it has a controller inside it to do the proper USB standard power negotiation. (My old Samsung phone thinks it is plugged into a computer when I plug it into that charger) Rather than the Apple propriety standard of connecting 2.2V and 2V to the USB data lines to say to the device that it is plugged into a charger. I think these voltages are getting out of wack. Which explains why your devices are charging fine off the laptop yet not off the chargers.

Weird - for the first time ever my reasonably old genuine Apple iPad charger did exactly the same thing last night, but it was definitely a problem with seating the 2 prongs into the 240v power socket. When I reseated it the problem immediately went away.
