So I’m taking my iPhone to my local Apple service provider for a battery replacement.
they’ve suggested wiping the phone first.

if I do that, can I continue to use my Apple Watch and have the fitness data for the day sync back to my phone when I set my phone back up?

thanks.

Not an apple expert, but I'd guess that if you back the phone up, then restore it from the backup, the watch won't know the difference.

Yeah, make sure you do a full backup to iCloud and then restore from the cloud when you restart the iPhone.

I never wipe an iPhone if I have it serviced unless I think it's being replaced. I back up daily.

Grrr I’m rather annoyed.
Went into ServicePlus, which is the Apple certified repairer in chch, to drop my phone in for the battery replacement only to be told they don’t carry iPhone X batteries in stock. They’d have to order one in so I’d have to come back in a week.

Now I had booked the service over a week ago as part of that, had to fill out one of their online forms. I stated that I wanted a battery replacement.

So I said to them given I had told them a week ago I want a new battery when I booked the service, why wouldn’t they proactively order a battery ready for my appointment.
apparently they don’t work like that.

what a joke. Waste of my time. Then had to spend even more time restoring my phone. Definitely won’t bother for next time.

I believe this due to Apple not allowing their AASPs to keep a stock pile of parts (to prevent them selling to 3rd party repair companies). Still doesn't explain why they didn't order the part when you first booked in.

They probably have to see the device and verify it is suitable/eligible for the battery replacement, and verify the model etc.
Then they can order the battery knowing it will be used.

In this case, you probably filled out everything correctly, but I imagine the vast majority of people don't.

If I was running the place, I'd probably do the same, but I'd also probably do the identification earlier OR make the process clear on the form.

When I had my AASP store in Whangarei Apple gave us consignment stock of all the different iPhone batteries so not sure what Service Plus is up to?
Unless Apple has since changed that practice and doesn't allow that anymore.
If someone had booked in a battery replacement like the OP did then we would make sure to put a battery aside for that job so it could be done when they dropped the iPhone in on the day.
