It is that time again. Apple is holding an event Oct 13 1000 PDT (NZ 0500 Wed 14) This will be an online digital event labelled Hi, Speed.

Expected

iPhone 12 line up with 5g

Over the ear headphones

AirTags

Maybe

HomePod mini plus Pro

Apple TV box with redesigned remote

Apple Game controller

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

I'm still hoping that one day Apple will surprise us with another 2007 Steve Jobs style blow your mind, change the world type release but alas I think small incremental updates are apples thing now.

I think its 6am local time - daylight savings.

looking forward to my new iPhone (I upgrade every year), just have to decide which size I want. Smaller cheaper HomePod would be cool although I would be stretching to find rooms to put one as I already have the 3 of the existing ones. Airtags meh, I don't lose things so maybe I'm not the target audience. New ATV could be interesting depending on what they do with it beyond a simple spec bump. Over-ear headphones could be interesting too.

Didn't Apple say their first laptop running on Apple Silicon would launch this year? If so, this could be the announcement for that as well.

If they update the Homepod product line it will be interesting to see if it'll be available in NZ.

Either way I'll stick with my Sonos gear as they are a specialist audio company.

I’m hanging out for air tags. Wondering if they’ll work with existing phone, even if I can't use AR with them.

Prefer  third party headphones to  over the Apple  ones. Have first gen air pods, and if I pair them with the LG TV it goes super loud on the volume and cannot turn it down.

Have Sony ones, the TV remote controls volume on those fine. When purchase headphones want them to work with all products, not just Apple ones.

Might upgrade my XS Max to whatever the larger version of the 12 will be called. Probably get the smallest size storage possible, I'd always gone for the largest but I don't actually store anything on the phone so it's become rather pointless..

For example I'm currently only using 39.5GB of 512GB.. I could even reclaim about 4GB of that if I offload unused apps!

Looking at moving from a iphone 7.  Will see what the 12 brings.....thouh still quite tempted by a SE2 as touch id and the size.  If the 12 using the same A13 chip as the current 11/SE2 then decision made.

Slightly annoying if the rumours are true that the Pro Max size will be better featured than the regular Pro. I'm on the upgrade program so will get one, but not sure i'd buy it outright.

I have a XS Max which is pretty scratched up so it would be tempting to upgrade, but I'm just not sure if there's much to be gained. I'm not convinced of the benefits of 5G in the short term.

I don't personally care about 5G being included. 4G works just fine for my use and there isn't a whole lot of 5G coverage in NZ anyway and what is there will likely be priced a premium.

I think it will be on all their new phone models (except the SE2), so it won't be a killer feature, much like 4G was when it came in.  But the rest of the updates look underwhelming, and the notch is expected to be here for at least another couple of years. The could easily now do a notchless phone with touch ID on the power button, like the new ipad air, or even go with an underscreen sensor. Covid has kind of killed face ID, and as there is no alternative authentication method, face ID devices can now be a PITA now to unlock.

Could I ask why? I can't actually think of a logical use case.

One of the channels on youtube I follow has made the suggestion that this phone could be called the 11S, also with the bigger phones the min capacity could be 128gig.

I've got an Xs Max but going off the rumours it still feels like another Camera upgrade model, 5G support is great but not a priority for me as 2degrees has nothing 5G wise at the moment (also noting Vodafone hasn't increased 5G coverage since launch and Spark only covers Palmerston North)

I don't know why it would be the iphone 12, as there is normally an 'S' year. But he iphone 11 this last year was a budget phone, still using an LCD screen  and thicker bezels, compared to the 'pro' models. TBH I have become a little confused by their naming. But apparently all new phones this year will be OLED, and there will be a 'mini' version, which wil probably be the one they name as teh iphone 12. This small form factor will be cool to see. I love my iphone SE 1st gen in it's small form factor, still a great phone today with ios14.
