Thanks, I’d seen that, but Apple website doesn’t confirm the change yet.

Just confirmed with an Apple support ‘chat’ that NZ it is indeed $49 for my (wife’s) iPhone6, after which they did an analytics check and the battery scored only 60% 😳

*edit FWIW it scores 67188 on Antutu instead of its expected (at new) 79215. Will post again after I’ve upgraded the battery and run the test again 👍

$49 is a big reduction as it was $139.
That price will be from Apple only, meaning your iPhone would need to be sent in to the Apple service centre in Auckland.
Any AASP will likely add a markup to that price, if you want them to do it at their location, otherwise they make no money.

Also be aware that Apple has strict health and safety rules about replacing the batteries in iPhones.
If the adhesive tabs break while trying to remove them then we are not allowed to pry the battery out, we have to stop the repair and the whole iPhone has to be replaced.

Apple and AASPs can run basic diagnostics remotely on iOS devices by putting your device serial number into the system. A menu option then appears on the device under Settings - Privacy - Analytics.

According to Apple, checks are not required any more on Iphone 6 and 7. They just replace the battery.

Paparangi: Sorry but do you have any numbers or anything to support the idea that “many users” purchased a new upgrade phone simply because of the (in my opinion) slightly sluggish performance. The only issue here really is just the lack of communication- their goal never was for people to upgrade their phones, which they’ve publicly stated. There is also no way to tell that people which had upgraded had sluggish phones due to the battery issue - despite the publicity there are actually several reasons phones can become sluggish.

The EverythingApplePro Youtube channel discusses iPhone users ringing Apple for support for slow phones, Apple not disclosing and users upgrading. Link here. This is a Apple fanboy channel, so I'm picking they are pretty much up with the play.

Similar to Volkswagen and diesel-gate, there was deliberate corporate deceit of consumers involved here, not miscommunication.

My mate has one, I sold it to him when 1 year old, he uses it like its joined to him, he hasn't complained. He knows about this issue as he mentioned it the other day.

Dial111: Thought I'd test the theory and benchmark my partners iPhone 7 Plus purchased July 2017 as she wanted to upgrade to iOS 11 and yep, score was significantly lower immediately once it was upgraded so it has been gimped imo and phone isn't even 6 months old.

Post upgrade, the score is lower then a 6s plus and a iPhone SE lol

You would need to shut down any apps, in case some are beavering away quietly in the background, and restart it (Dont do the silly "hard restart" )

Even then, when I ran mine, i got an email alert while it was going. IMO your setup will matter a bit, i.e. what is active

And who has to pay for a replacement phone if you do a battery replacement for a out of warranty iphone and you botched it up? Hopefully not the customer..

Im sure they have stocks of past phones, and they will be refurbished
