It would be a re-manufactured iPhone of the exact same model, storage, and colour as your old one.

You can't upgrade or change colour in the replacement process, it's a like for like exchange only.

Apple still do replacements all the way back to the iphone 4s, so replacement for even old models isn't a problem.

You would need to shut down any apps, in case some are beavering away quietly in the background, and restart it (Dont do the silly "hard restart" )

Even then, when I ran mine, i got an email alert while it was going. IMO your setup will matter a bit, i.e. what is active

So I did a test... full restart, closed all apps, turned off background refresh, and turned on airplane mode. Ran the test 3 times in a row while PLUGGED IN:

1) 134,231
2) 162,531 (thought maybe it had cached some things?)
3) 124,010

🤷‍♂️ This tells me the ‘Antutu test’ is basically useless I’d say 🙄

Perhaps they think it’s now ‘out of support’ as you’re likely at the end of your battery’s expected life anyway?

What does an app like BatteryLife Pro report? (Free with adds)

My iPhone 7+ reports 3.6% loss (around a year old) and my wife’s 6 reports between 44% (when less than 30% charged) to 37% (fully charged) loss, so definitely time for a new one for her now too!

I have just called service plus (they are a apple authorized repair agent) and asked how much a battery replacement costs and they told me $49 so they have already updated there pricing as per Apple.

Yes they can, and it is required as part of the repair process.

I believe it only applies to iphone 6 and 7 models as ios11 wont go on a iphone 5.

Yeah any device with 10.2.1 installed which would be iphone 6 and up.

No, iOS 10.2.1 also applies to the iphone 5 and iphone 5s. The iphone 5s also gets ios11, up to todays version. So this problem should also apply to the iphone 5s, but it doesn't. My understanding is that is because the iphone 6 and newer devices use a different battery manufacturer https://www.cultofmac.com/287472/iphone-6-battery-issues-solved/ . So the announcement is a bit of a red herring IMO as the iphone 5s and 5 aren't affected, so it doesn't appear to be solely related to normal battery wear, as the iphone 5s batteries should be more worn, unless you purchased it quite recently. Apple were still selling the 5s up until 2016 which is when I got mine new, and my battery shows it is 10% worn. But according to apple, it isn't affected, due to it only affecting iphone 6 and newer, which would line up with the date on the article.

The slowdown was introduced in iOS 10.2.1, which applies to both the iphone 5 and 5s. The 5s also gets ios11, so theoretically it should also be affected, but apple says it isn't, which doesn't make sense if it is solely related to general battery wear, rather than being specific to certain batteries and manufacturers of those batteries.

Well that's not fair at all! maybe they do want people with older phone's to upgrade rather then get a new battery!

It may be that the 5S apps are less hungry than apps that are updated for the 6 and higher? To me, it seems more that the battery is the 6 and higher isn't big enough so it becomes an issue sooner? And that the 5's ratio between app demands and battery size are better matched?

I was speaking to someone who reviews mobiles, and they said that they believe it is due to the change in the battery manufacturer which occurred when the iphone 6 came out, as they needed thinner and lighter batteries, and they were also running displays that were larger pushing more pixels which caused higher drain. The thing is that it doesn't appear to have been a major problem with iphones prior to the 6, and the newer processors are supposed to be more energy efficient, which meant they didn't need as large a battery. My iphone 5s doesn't appear to slow down or crash these days under ios11 even though the battery is showing 10% worn. I did have a problem where it died at about 30% and the battery then went to zero and needed charging, but I don't think that is related, as it now isn't doing that under the latest version of ios11. I am guessing that it isn't something that is likely to affect the iphone X to the same extent, due to it having two batteries and trying to design new hardware around this issue. Although as that has two batteries which is ore complicated, I wonder if the battery replacement on that would be the same price. I think this type of problem shows that the plus models with the larger battery are the better option long term, as you don't need to charge it as much, so it should last longer before it needs to be replaced.
