mike: Vodafone has locked the APN so it's not editable out of the box (yet), enterprise deployment tools can't modify it either.

Because 12.00 - well the actual time is 00.00 - is still Thursday, 00.01 is the first minute of Friday.

This is freaking rediculous.

I went into a vodaphone reseller (studenit at Canterbury Uni) at 09:00am this morning as I'd arranged through back channels to have an iPhone waiting for me. Turns out the automated web credit check the resllers use broke spectacularly when they went live with the iPhone products, so every store in the country has to ring the vodaphone line to get customers signed up.

2.5hrs waiting in the store while the staff hit redial continually we manage to get through, get signed up and the contract approved. Once that's done they have to email the contract to the sales drone who eyeballs it, gets you to sign it and then then you walk out with your shiny new phone.

3hrs later and 5.5 hrs after walking into the store STILL NO CONTRACT.

Vodaphone, the iphone rules, you ducking suck great big sweety donkey bits, just so as you know.

This of course should not reflect on the studentit people who have been extremely patient, courteious and understanding.

I wonder what the com-com has to say about "unlocked phone" with a "locked APN"

Only a matter of time before it's cracked anyway!

Considering Vodafone has publicly stated it will not lock its handsets, this is a rather large slap in the face and ANOTHER baldfaced lie. What on earth is going to happen when customers try and move over to Telecom or NZ Coms?

Just to say when I put a SIM card in my iphone 3G from another operator - in my case a UK 02 one, I can quite happily roam (all be it on the VOD network of course) and enter whatever APN I want together with whatever Username and Password I want. i.e. the 'Cellular Data Network' option becomes available when a non-NZ vod SIM card is inserted. I'd therefore say the phone comes completely unlocked for both voice and data straight out of the box.

As an aside, I also cancelled out of the activation process (because I realised I still had a UK address registerd in itunes) and so never activated the phone - and it works quite happily. And I didn't/don't get offered the activation process again. (Sorry for posting this elsewhere too but I thought it may be useful to folk who don't read this thread).

Cust: I can use 3G on my '3G' iPhone please?
VF:No! sorry mr big spender. You need the 'new' 'improved' iPhone 200MB MBB Plan.

Cust: right, so what does that have that my current plan doesn't?
VF: 24 month contract with early termination charges... oh, and we 'flick' a little switch in our system so that you have the iPhone APN and data works. then it's pretty much the same.

Cust: Even though i purchased the phone outright and i am already a VF customer?
VF: Yes! you should change, solve all your problems. Then you'll be happy.

Cust: Neat, so, you can change me to this plan if i am happy to 'wear' a 24 months commitment to get nothing new so i can use the phone i just paid in full for?
VF: No, you have to go into a store for that.

Cust: Forget about it. I think i'll wait a couple days until the commerce commission call you guys.
VF: Great! happy to help. Anything else i can help you with? Thank you for choosing VF.

Cust: Click

Not impressed; pretty sure it's not 'explained' well on their website either. The CS rep did inform me that they'd be changing that soon before more people got upset that it was vague... conceal the evidence.

Danger, as far as I'm aware, all that's required is to update your PDPs (slot 3 should be the next free one), with www.iphone-vodafone.net.nz. Tell the stupid CSR it's about halfway down the list and it's not alphabetized if they can't find it.

Hey guys, if anyone feels that they were misled by Vodafone staff (perhaps unintentionally given the mixed information many CSRs seem to have been giving to people), remember than under the Consumer Guarantees Act you have a case to make for a refund if you are not happy to keep your phone.

I'm not suggesting that people here should or shouldn't do it. But just a reminder if you find yourself in this situation.

Goods must be "fit for purpose" and if you have been misled you have a right of recourse via refund.

Got my iphone on prepay.
Went this morning they said it wouldn't work and I said put a prepay sim in it, laughed at them when it worked.
Then they said it wouldn't activate with a prepay sim, so i went home and activated it on my prepay sim.....
Good One Vodafon Northlands Mall.
They then said they wouldn't unlock because I wouldn't be able to activate it. Now thats it's activated they must be happy to ahahaha and then il fire in the prepay APN and bam!

Of course - this whole batch to NZ is unlocked. No need to go back to VF to unlock it. Its all go!
