I was on You Tube today, on my computer, and I saw that there were some Dolby Atmos demos available. I was instructed to put on a pair of headphones, so I dug out a reasonably expensive pair of Sennheiser's that I haven't used for a while. I then listened to Believer by Imagine Dragons.....and I was totally blown away by the experience. It sounded amazing. How can a pair of stereo headphones put out such great immersive sound?

With Dolby Atmos soon to be available on Apple Music (I have a subscription) we are going to be able to experience a new way to listen to music. A real game changer. Try it!

Was it Atmos you were hearing - or just high-def music due to a high bitrate? IANAnExpert but not sure that you could hear or receive true Atmos on stereo headphones.

It was 8D sound. I have since found some tracks in 12D and 16D. The sound just swirls around your head, moving around  continuously. I think it is Atmos based, but not Atmos like we will get on Apple Music. I have listened to some tracks with normal Atmos, and they sound great also. Dig out your headphones and have a listen for yourself.

Interesting. Appears to be something like the new feature that Apple introduced to the AirPods Pro some months ago - that they call Spatial Audio?

I have been listening to binaural recordings on my headphones for a long time, if it's what the artist intended, then cool.

If it's an extra mix that's designed to sell music service subscriptions or headphones - then less so.

Just been in contact with the Airpoints Store. There is still "supply chain" issues on Apples side of things in Australia. The expected delivery date is now between 18 & 29 June.

And So We Continue To Wait ☹️

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

I hate it when I have to wait for anything. You must be really annoyed to say the least.

I’m waiting for a new computer from Dell. It made it to the Christchurch depot two days ago, but still waiting. Until then I am computerless 🤨

@FineWine:

In case you saw it, I just put up a post about availability - then realised you’re talking about AirPoints Store. Sorry, I misread Apple Store for AirPoints Store. So I took the post back down.

There’s reasonable availability from ordinary retailers.

Yes apparently so. This is what is so strange. There would be no profit margin for the AirPoints Store and even if there was, knowing Apple they would be VERY lean anyway. So there must be some convoluted payment and order system between the two because as far as I can surmise:

I order and buy off AirPoints Store > they pay and order from Apple > Apple delivers direct to me

All a bit disappointing really even in these times of shipping problems. They are manufactured by Foxconn in China but even so Apple usually has long lead times for manufacture and stock build-up prior to new product announcements.

Oh well will just have to be patient even though I have been waiting 18 months for this release 😤

Dolby Atmos Music and lossless audio now available on Apple TV 4K, and apparently earlier models can get it too.

Been listening to Atmos through my headphones 'cos wifey is in bed. Impressive! Looking forward to tomorrow when I can play it through my Atmos surround system.

You need to go into the "App" section of settings to turn on lossless (24 bit/48KHz)

Well, I finally listened to four albums from Apple Music with volume turned up on my Dolby Atmos speaker set up.

John Lennon - Gimme Some Truth: Taylor Swift - Fearless: The Eagles - Live at the Forum MMXVIII: The Beatles - Abbey Road

WOW!

YIPPEE it has arrived my new TV 4K (2nd Gen) 64Gb. 😀

Spent the afternoon setting it up, downloading relevant apps and logging in to my streaming services (which 1Password made easy as far as remembering my long complicated passwords).

I happy with the new remote - so far.

The remote on our iPhones and iPads was fun cause we could not find it to start off with and then we had that DOH moment and realised it is within the Control Center - DOH. I think there is big bug though. That is the keyboard covers the relevant components of the log-in credentials screen and if you touch the keyboard symbol (bottom right) does nothing, the keyboard stays in place. ☹️ Though with all other text entries there is no problem.

Siri works a huge treat and makes searching a piece of cake.

I have it plugged into the home network via Ethernet and then the HDMI (2.0b, HDCP: 2.2), cable plugged directly into the TV. The ARC works. I will give this ago for a while as we mainly, 60%, watch FTA. But will give plugging it into our AV receiver ago and see if there is a sound improvement or not. (we don't have an ATMOS setup yet).
