Do you mean is it a good idea:

1. To get a 4S, and to get it now, or do you mean

2. Is there an issue with an Australian sourced one?

1. is up to you, 2. I am unsure if there are any gotchas with an Oz one, given that with Siri, that may or may not appear on ours. If it doesn't, and you update iOS5 versions from here, will that be an issue from a NZ IP address on a non NZ iPhone? I do not know.

An unlocked iPhone is an unlocked iPhone, sourced in the US or sourced in Australia or NZ is no different (except for the power adapter in the case of a US phone)

Depends if it's SIM locked or not. If it's SIM locked, you won't be able to use it here. If it's SIM unlocked, no issues other than possible warrenty issues.

If I was to replace my iPhone 4 with a 4s before my 24 month contract was up I wouldn't be required to tell vodafone would I.

I'm not really planning on doing it but I'm probably going to aus in march (for F1) and if they are unlocked and cheaper I might.

I bought an iPhone 3gs from Oz and had an issue on the screen, the only real issue I had was getting support. I had to send it back to Oz to get it repaired, PITA and fortunately I had a spare phone I could use in the mean time.. if it was NZ sourced through Vodafone they will usually issue you a temporary phone while you wait for yours to be repaired.

The best thing with the release of the iPhone 4S is that the 3GS is now a good buy. The 3GS basically does everything the 4 does just not quite so well. As a business tool the 3GS is fine.

That is a good point. My daughter has her birthday a few days after Christmas. She wanted an iPod Touch, but also a new phone. We're getting her a white iPod Touch and a cheap Android (Huawei X3), at a total cost of $568.

For a mere $30 more, we possibly would've been just as well served by a 3GS... although the concern is that it may not have been grunty enough to handle all the iOS apps she may want to throw at it (she's been spoilt by using my iPhone 4 & iPad 2). Also looking at the 3GS specs, it seems pretty comparable to the X3.

I have a 3GS with iOS5 GM and it defaintely does not lag at all. The 1st couple of betas yes it did but it just got better as each beta was released.

Note you won't be able to use it in NZ until someone gets a SIM unlock crack out for it! (Which take a while/forever)
