I haven't seen anything on Vodafone New Zealand yet, but Vodafone Australia has posted a holding page saying "end the rumours" (funny they say "end the rumours but don't reveal anything really):

So, how is the iPhone 5 New Zealand launch going? Who is getting one? What do you expect in terms of price? And will the New Zealand launch be flawless or plagued like last year's? Any chance of a second operator officially carrying the iPhone brand this time?

Hmm.. let's hope Apple will sell iPhone 5 from their online store the day it's available at the same time Vodafone NZ has it as well... (though chances of that happening is unlikely *sigh*)

- Plagued gets more headlines than flawless
- Single carrier (for launch) because VF have sooo much more pull than XT, but I'd expect to see XT have access in the new year
- Not on my list of things I want or need this Christmas

Somehow I also have a feeling that it will be SUPER limited quantity available in NZ... not a real surprise as it had happened in the past with all other iPhone/iPad releases ... *sigh*

It'll be limited numbers as per usual... hopefully I can pick my new phone up via the Apple store as I'm after an unlocked version out of the box.

All phones in NZ are unlocked anyway.

I'd laugh if by "biggest" they mean that 5.3" Samsung :)

However, I expect launch troubles as per usual. Pricing will probably be similar to the current models. Apple seems to be easing off with the operator restrictions (now with Verizon in the US and rumoured to be coming to Sprint soon) so I'd see an official Telecom release as a possibility.

I'm sure it will sell, but i've got to say telecom has done an excellent job promoting the SGSII and with $0 down on a $100 per month plan - while the IP5 may have similar specs it's hard to justify paying $700+ and signing up to an expensive plan just for the iphone name.

I'm picking a mid october release.

I'm also picking it will only be on Vodafone at launch because Telecom won't pick it up.

Apple have no exclusive one carrier markets and haven't had for a while. There are no markets where Vodafone are the only carrier other than NZ. This is either because Vodafone NZ is bigger and stronger than all other carriers including vodefone international or because Telecom have chosen not to sell the iphone.

I believe the only reason Telecom don't sell it is because they won't agree to Apple's T&C's and nothing to do with Vodafone NZ.

I also think there will be 2 models, a high end iphone5 and a mid-range iphone 4s

those are my thoughts on it anyway

Cheers

I'd say launch issues again, although I expect the supply to be very limited due to the tsunami affecting some componentry. For me, an online Apple Store purchase, not going through last years mess again, plus will assess release to make sure there are no hardware/iOS5 issues.

Apparently the new iOS versions were released a few days prior to the new device model, that may happen here too maybe.

Pricewise, I expect same as usual, despite the favourable exchange rate.

I've also heard that a few features don't work correctly on Telecom; for example apparently you can't roam in China with an iPhone on Telecom. I wonder whether there are other issues that Telecom would want sorted out before selling iPhones officially.

Have to agree, I bought my one the day they arrived in stock, no fanfare nothing, VF really did little to nothing to promote the S2, roll on a couple of months and XT has created massive momentum

You know people will sign up purely for the iphone name lol, c'mon there is still how many people out there secure in their knowledge that their old dated 2G & 3G iphones are still far superior to any of the android or W7 handsets available today Laughing

I'll be getting a new iPhone to replace my 3GS, and if there's a new iPad I'll be getting that too - but it'll be my first :)
