Any long time android users getting an iPhone here? I have been with Android since my first smartphone and have been thinking of jumping onto the apple wagon for quite some time. They had almost won me over when they introduced larger iphones. But the camera did hold me back.

But they have fixed that as well and now I am really thinking of biting the bullet.

Long time Android user here - I did try out the iPhone 4 for a bit, but didn't last long. I just think Apple take a mickey out of punters with their pricing - per an earlier post of mine, $1,200 outright for the 16GB 6s is an awful lot of coin for a phone with next to no storage, below par resolution, tiny battery and limited RAM. A similarly priced Android flagship will surpass the iPhone in every spec, so why the iphone still has such a draw with users is a mystery to me.

The worse of it is that Apple haven't seen fit to lift the basic storage from 16GB, whereas the cost to do so would be absolutely negligible. Why not? Well, there's more money to be made by selling someone a $1,200 phone with inadequate storage, tempting them to upgrade again once they realise this.

Hm. I do see your point about Apple charging over the odds for their latest and greatest. But that is the NZ currency which has done that for us unfortunately.

Regarding the specs. Yup, I do know what you mean that spec wise, Apple is never going to be better than the Android competition. BUT - its not about the specs because it is not comparing apples to apples (no pun intended). As long as i (as the user) get similar battery life, similar storage and smooth software, that is all that matters I reckon. Computing terms, you dont necessarily need an i7 Extreme processor every time, an i5 would suffice most users.

I am currently using the Note 4 and have thought of going to iPhone 6S+ 64gb as my next. Screen resolution wise, I never really saw the point of going higher than 1080p - you are pushing more pixels at the sacrifice of battery. Those extra pixels dont make much difference (I have used the OnePlus One and the screen (1080p 5.5inch) was really good for me!). Not saying Note 4 has a bad screen, it actually has an awesome screen, one of the best yes.

For the ram - 6s+ is rumoured to finally have 2GB (hurrah). But android 5.0.1 is always taking up about 1.7gb ram on my note anyway (at the lowest) leaving me with about 1gb of usable ram for apps etc. So this again, wouldn't make too much of a difference. The key factor is that iOS is quite stingy and android isnt as frugal.

Anyways - I do see and completely agree with you that the price that they are asking is quite ridiculously high. The only comparison I can make is between Samsung Note Edge+ 64gb ($1399) and iPhone 6s+ ($1599) 64gb. 200 bucks premium for the iPhone.

I'm switching, it'll be iPhone 6S+ 64GB for me, been an Android user since 2011. I switched because I got sick of the 3.5" screen size and Android was more exciting.

I'm moving back because iOS has matured a lot, I use an iPad and Mac, and I just find it a lot nicer to use than Android. I've been using Samsung phones, currently a Note 4, but it just doesn't do it for me anymore.

Those changing camp from Android to iOS, you can migrate over using "Move to iOS" app.

But in all seriousness - I am looking to switch for almost the same reason. I do get quite frustrated with the rogue apps that chew through battery like insane, or some processes that just go out of control etc.. I kind of like the idea of the Apple garden wall in that case.

I am also quite weary of Samsung's software updates. If they were a little bit faster (still on 5.0.1), it would be nicer.

The only thing that I definitely will miss, changeable batteries. That feature is very very underrated I reckon. Being able to charge my phone's battery while not being physically plugged in, that is godsend!

iPhone and Androids are manufactured in the same country from the same supply chains, its not the NZD dropping at play here

So what's the "real" reason for the price increased, oh sage?!

We might see more evidence when other Android phones bring out brand new models. Some of the ones selling here now would have been purchased at a better rate, and some companies will have forward exchange contracts which have buffered them from the recent drop so far. In any event, nobody is forcing my arm behind my back to buy an iPhone at these prices. I'm doing it because I prefer the iOS experience, and to me the money is worth it. YMMV.
