Batman:
does face id work in the dark? what about when pitch black? or in fancy flashing lights with smoke around eg disco?
serious question. thanks.
Having used Face ID numerous times in all of those situations, it's a definite yes. iOS 12 even lets you use it horizontally (as in, you're laying in bed and need to unlock your iPhone while your head is still on the pillow). This wasn't the case in iOS 11 (it would fail unless the iPhone was vertical).
It can be slightly slower to unlock if you're in a crowd and there are multiple (5+) faces in view of the camera, so it can help to put the iPhone slightly closer to your face in some instances (I found this last week at the Pink concert).
In the NZ Apple store every variant of the XS can still be ordered for delivery on launch day (21/09/2018), and every variant of the XS Max only has a very short delay (26/09/2018 - 4/10/2018), except for the silver 512GB which is still has launch day availability.
If this is a world-wide trend, Apple has to be disappointed.
When was the last time a flagship iPhone still had such early availability 3 days after pre-orders opened?
Hopefully it sends a message that for most consumers they have priced these devices too high.
I think they got away with the high pricing for the original X because at the time it was something very special, but that is no longer the case with the XS models.
I walked in and got a 4S on launch day at Spark off plan, and then IIRC there were big delays getting a 6. As you said, the X was pretty big, so it's no surprise the S isn't quite as popular.

Or they have more devices to sell on launch date this time around...
Benjip:
Managed to get my XS Max order in but the 2degrees online store wouldn't let me update my delivery address to my work address (when I tried, it said "Something's not working as it should", so I just went ahead with the existing home address).
@2degreesCare , will I be able to update the delivery address before next Friday?
Hi @Benjip, if it's not already been dispatched. Please can you PM us your number, 4 digit PIN, delivery addresses, email address and order number if you have it.
Thanks

Oops, I ended up sorting it out yesterday with your phone reps (who were also very helpful, so thank you!). Thanks for getting back to me though :)

I think it's more likely to be a case of them already having the technology and production refined (having been building the X for at least 12 months).
There were a lot of leaks this time around too which suggests they probably started building them en masse a lot earlier than previous launches.

I would say people don't want to pay so much or waiting for the XR to be released. Lets face it the XR is the better bang for the buck this time around.
Went to the Takapuna Spark store to preorder iPhone Xs Max (I have to go to a store to do Trade-up). Only to find out the store doesn't exist there anymore.
Feels like everything is pointing me to not upgrade to iPhone Xs Max this year. The 2080Ti and Apple Watch 4 Hermes are the same price as iPhone Xs Max as well. So much opportunity cost for a marginal upgrade.

Dial111: For those that have ordered via 2degrees in the past, I see that they email you once tracking number is allocated. If for example you missed the first wave and got bumped back to 4-8 weeks, would they email you to say you’ve been bumped back or would you wait 6-7 weeks for a tracking number without any heads up?
Wife renewed her contract for 12 months, no confirmation email or anything other then the initial $29 upfront charged.
I'm just hugely disappointed (again) that the stainless steel variants of the Apple Watch are only available in LTE and therefore not available in NZ...
I have a series 2 and would love a series 4 SS 44mm, but Apple just doesn't want my money, it seems. I do not want to shell out $1000 (incl Apple Care) for an aluminium sports watch.
I could get a cheaper Fitbit or Garmin that would suffice for my usage, that would satisfy my need for Stainless Steel, but I am an unabashed Apple Fanboy, so stick with what I have is my only option, outside of getting one from Australia and not activating the cellular service.
Not upgrading from my X either - see nothing compelling as an iPhone X owner to upgrade this time around...

"Unabashed apple fanboy" but you're not upgrading, you just hurt apples feelings, you know they need your money :P
When it says delivery 21st, does it mean you receive the device on the 21st or it that when they start sending it?
