Yes we may, with 100 handsets available nationwide, and only if you're willing to lock into a contract for 2 years.

Next question

Whats a fair price for buyer and seller of an iPhone4 32Gb? Mint as always with cover?
Reason for asking is that while the upgrade, and that is all it is, may or may not be worth it depending on the price variance

Since I'm still lumbered with my old 3G, I'll probably upgrade. Will be in oz soon, might just pick one up while I'm over there.

you can't "just pick one up" dude!

there are only a few designated stores ... and they receive shipment every other week or so ... and you need to queue up when they open that day and hope they don't sell out when it gets to you :)

good luck!

PS - shouldn't this thread be renamed "iP4s NZ non launch"

As usual you probably thank Vodafone for this yet again. Its little wonder they are losing the race in this country for mobile users.

I for one wont forget the debacle when the 4g launched.

Personally I'm not going to buy until I can easily get one without any queues, waiting lists, walking all over town looking for stock, plan contracts, overseas ordering, or any other such dramas.

My 3GS is working fine at the moment and whilst I'm keen to upgrade it I'm happy to just wait two or three months if that means that I can avoid all the stress.

Quick question- an auction on trademe for an iPhone 4 states that it works on vodafone and 2 degrees, but he cannot test it on Telecom.

If it works on Vodafone and 2 degrees, does that mean its unlocked and will work on any network?

Yes. I bought my 4 from Vodafone on debacle launch day and popped a Telecom microsim in same day, all perfect.

You bought it outright though?

Most contract phones will be locked to vodafone (most iPhone 4's on trademe are locked).

But I'm thinking if this one can access vodafone AND 2 degrees it must be unlocked.

I got it for $799 on contract, waited 2 days and cancelled contract, paid $500 cancellation fee. Voda stopped that later, so you would then pay $500 ETF, AND pay back subsidy of $430. I am 99% sure they are unlocked phones still but you cannot now buy and cancel and be no worse off.

After all that, and endless calls to Egypt as they wanted to charge the $430 as well, I will go Alasta's way, wait till they are at Apple NZ, and buy from them.

I find it interesting that Vodafone always get the blame for things that in many cases are dictated to by Apple. Vodafone's weakness is that they're not willing to stand up to Apple for obvious reasons it's in Apple's interests to have limited supplies and queues.

As for Vodafone "losing the race for mobile users" I guess it depends entirely how you want to interpret the statistics.

Why is everybody looking at Vodafone for the launch? Apple have their own online store and retail presence in NZ with stock also sourced by numerous retailers from Australia.

NO iPhones sold in NZ have ever been locked. No carrier in NZ has locked handsets for around 10 years, the exception to this being Vodafone locking a couple of models around 5 years ago in a failed attempt to reintroduce subsidised phones with IMEI locks.

Berg

I dont think that iPhones from the UK or US are that rare, either by being brought back, or brought in by friends and rellys who have travelled, or being sent over here. They are locked, and need to be jailbroken to work.

Ah cheers guys.

All the phones on trademe saying they only worked on vodafone had me confused.
