Correct. iPhone X isn't available to order until 27th October.

Video isn't so bad, becuase you end up with black bars down the side, which makes it not too different from an iphone 8. If you don't want that, you can double tap to zoom in to full width, but it then crops the top and bottom of the screen, and you then get the camera cutout hiding part of the image. Also the curved corners hide part of the picture.

16x9 videos will be fine as it will pillarbox them as you said. But what will it do with 21x9 videos which will still require letterboxing on the X? I hope there is a setting to pillarbox one side just up to where the notch ends.

Hmmm.....

The multitasking view looks similar to the existing one, with a series of cards descending in space horizontally across the screen. Whereas in iOS 10 on the iPhone 7 you swipe up on a card to close the app, the iPhone X running iOS 11 requires you to hold your finger down on the card so red indicators appear on all the cards. From there, I tapped them out.

The multitasking view works like it did some iOS versions ago, with the red minus sign in the corner. In general, I’m not a fan of anything that requires me to hold down my finger for a while to gain a basic function. I’m not glad that’s back.

But that 'swiping away each task' or 'close each task' doesn't really do much since all of the apps are essentially frozen and not running after you go back to the home screen for a few seconds. The only exceptions are a few apps that needs to run in the background eg. audio/gps or if you have the running in background thing enabled in settings.

Do the telcos allow you to buy upfront if you order through them? If so are you better to order through your telco or from Apple?

I want to place an order tonight and sign up on one of Vodafone's new plans, but I'm thinking that I might be best to order the device directly from Apple tonight and then sign up for a Vodafone plan when I have more time next week.

Don't know about today, but the last few years both carriers have reserved their initial stock to those renewing plans. If you wanted to buy outright you needed to go to Apple.

You wont be able to buy a phone outright from any telco until probably December.

In saying that though there are usually decent discounts to be had if you are getting it bundled with an account. The offers will certainly be worth looking into before going directly to Apple.

Yep agreed, I'm expecting to re-sign a 24 month contract with Voda and get a couple of hundred discount off the price of the phone. Plus I might do the interest free option and use their money rather than mine.

I assume that everyone who decided to go for the iPhone 8/8 Plus via Apple will get release day delivery. Usually by now the date has started to slip, but it's still sitting steady almost ten minutes after pre-orders went live.

Not hard to figure out why though...

More likely to get people to spend the extra on the 256GB version, thinking rightly that 64GB is too small for such an expensive device, which needs the storage for the super slomo, AR apps and 4K video amongst other requirements. 128GB would be 'enough'in most peoples perception whilst 64GB is 'not enough'

It is tight of them not to make the smallest version of the iphone X , 128GB. But I guess Apple have always made the smallest not quite enough, so people pay more to get the larger size. Just a pity the larger one is only 256GB, and not 512GB, or they didn't have 3 size options.

It is but typical Apple right. I doubt many people will bother with the 64gb as if your already spending $1800, $200 more isnt much to make sure you will have enough storage (well thats the advice im giving all my friends that want them at least anyways haha)

Yes I'm waiting for the X, but my wife kept changing her mind about whether she wanted to upgrade to the 8 Plus or keep the 6 Plus she has.

Was pleasantly surprised that when she finally decided she wanted it, i was able to order it from Apple at 8 PM and still get 22/09 delivery.

I wasn't able to order at 7pm as I was busy, so I've just ordered mine now and still got a delivery date of 22 September. It looks like they must have a reasonable amount of inventory.

So we're now three hours after pre-orders went live and all colours and storage sizes are still available for launch day delivery except the 64GB Space Grey 8 and 8 Plus in AU/NZ. The only store I've seen where it looks like they've exhausted all launch stock is the UK - and even then they're only quoting 1-2 weeks for delivery.

I guess we will find out in just over a month if it's due to the X, or if people just aren't excited about the offerings in 2017.
