Not really, currently have a LG P500 with Android. Good phone, perfect size its just too slow. iPhone 4 has a really good screen and is fast, plus it's relatively cheap now.

I think thats a bit of a generalised remark, most people would have gotten iPhones because the hype around them was maybe so much that apple could not possibly f-up on this. They're a pretty well trusted brand, and with sales like theirs, who wouldn't trust their phones?

Apple has plenty of shortcomings, particularly in regards to RF performance. However most people are willing to overlook them "because it's an iPhone". That's some pretty powerful marketing there when you can make a somewhat sub-par product (according to some people) and people will still buy it just because of the brand.

Its not all about the product.
I think its more about the support. People know when they buy an Apple product , they can return back to the apple store and there are a bunch of people there waiting to help. I have experienced this first hand myself.
Obviously it does not apply really in New Zealand as we don't have a an actual Apple Store.
But you get the gist.

Because, here in New Zealand you buy it from a retailer, find a problem, call Apple they tell you to take to a telco store, the telco store tells you to call Apple because they didn't sell the handset, you call Apple, get a return number, take to telco store, telco store person disregards it, wants to send for checking for wathever fault it is, charge you for looking at the device, then you have to create a scene to have them honour the Apple return, and so on...

Not in the US only. Australia has an apple store , most big countries do.
Sadly New Zealand does not.
I admit it is really frustrating for apple customer's in New Zealand.

It doesn't have the best tech or have the best features but it does what I need perfectly well so swapping would just be a pain.

$599 is the same price as the ipod touch, albeit 8GB vs 64GB, so that is pretty good value. No siri and no larger screen but that may not worry some people.

Best solution is to remove the problem form the equation - buy direct from apple online. I have done it for every apple product i have ever purcahsed and can say that the service has been remarkable.

No Siri - How often do we like to talk to our phone except for the curiosity as to how it works..?

Every disruptive product always starts as "not good enough" and is dismissed by rivals/industry pundits. However as it evolves in capability (look at Siri version 2.0 in iOS 6.0) it eventually becomes "good enough" at which point it is too late for competitors to begin from scratch.

And remember that Apple keeps its iPhones updated for 3-4 years after release, so while the iPhone 4S launched with iOS 5 with Siri 1.0, in 2 years it will be running iOS 8 with Siri 4.0 which will undoubtedly be very,very impressive.

Did you know with Samsung Galaxy S2, there was already a voice talk app (And SGS2 was released way before IPhone 4S).. So maybe its Siri doing the catching up with the S-Voice in SGS3..

There was google voice actions way before siri.
There have always been apps.

Siri was breakthrough because it was integrated and was quite accurate.

Ofcourse now google have the new voice search which is only available on 4.1 , which I must say it quite accurate and responsive :)

I just had this issue about 2 weeks ago. I purchased an extended warranty from Yoobee in Hamilton. But when it was time to take it in, they gave me the run around and told me to call brightpoint. Their customer service is crap. If I buy a product from them, I expect them to assist me (even if it means they call brightpoint and sort out my issue). After calling apple and brightpoint (who both agreed Yoobee should have sorted it) I sorted it.

Had to take it to Vodafone and a really helpful person in the city centre branch sorted me out.

I agree, deal with apple directly as you dont need these middle men to add more stress to your life

Google's new voice search - Google Now - works on ICS as well. Have tried it on my 2+ year old single core Desire HD, it worked well and understood my NooZild accent. But, as mentioned above, voice search is a novelty or at best useful in a car. If most of the software is going to be available in iOS6 then the main reason I can see for buying the iP5 is the bigger sceen.

Although siri is still in beta, so I suspect it is still not good enough.
Also I don't think apple do keep all ios products up to date for 3-4 years. With my ipod touch 2nd gen they stopped ios updates after less then 2 years after I purchased it. I did however buy it 6 months into it's product cycle. This is one reason I think that the ipod touch new version should have the same A6 processor as the iphone 5, not a processor that is already 18 months old, as it will likely mean that future support will cease before the iphone 5.
