So the other half wants to upgrade from a Galaxy S6

Leaning towards either a Galaxy Note 8 or iPhone 8/plus.

The Note with stylus plus familiarity
Or
Ip8 and a whole new OS experience

How say you GZ?

She upgraded a 6S so a 2 year old phone.

Yeah my 24 month contract had just ended so no early termination fee, but if you are within 3-4 months of the end of the contract you are usually ok, just check. I think last time I still had over 2 months to run but no term fee

If budget allows, go with Note with stylus - just beware, it is a big phone - quite a big step up from S6. I would recommend going in store to see how the S8+ feels in hand. Note 8 wouldnt be too far off from it.

iPhone is generally a lot more simple to use, easy to use interface (as long as you listen to the rules within the garden walls of Apple).

Not everyone can handle (no pun intended) it. If she has a Macbook or iPad, then she would find the transition a lot easier and would be okay with it.

Otherwise, may i suggest the S8 or the LG V30?

I've had a Galaxy S2/S4. 10 years ahead of the equivalent half eaten apple of the time, tonnes of listed features.

Trouble was, nothing works as you want. Battery drains when you have facebook or email. I mean, yeah I can uninstall email and facebook, but why have a Galaxy phone?

Have remote control but incredibly difficult to use compared to the TV remote.

Had GPS but never works! (Twice, on both phones!)

Had unlimited apps, but the torch light app wants to access my internet and my contacts. WTH!

Can flash umpteen roms - but it would crash.

Wife had an iphone - just works. Battery never drains when not using it. No features, but whatever's there works. (Mostly!)

They both work. Same, but different. Buy whatever she likes. Go and play with the 7 plus and imagine glass cover on the back. It is really exactly the same phone bar 3, maybe 4 things.

I really need to see these new units in the flesh to figure out if it is worthwhile upgrading.

My 6s+ is very responsive and so no compelling performance reason to upgrade.

I've stated in the past that the new iphone of the time is rubbish and i'll never buy it, then gone on to buy.

So , who knows. I'm patient now, a quality I wish i'd possessed in earlier days .

You might be thinking of wireless charging?

I know when I purchased my Galaxy S7 last year I had to purchase the wireless charging pad separately then also..

You might be thinking of wireless charging? I know when I purchased my Galaxy S7 last year I had to purchase the wireless charging pad separately then also..

Nope, not wireless ...

"In order to make fast charging work, you need a USB-C power adapter — which doesn’t come in the box with the new iPhones. You’ll also need a USB-C to Lightning cable, which is a definite buzzkill. Unfortunately, it’s a necessity, as the commonly-used USB-A connector tops out at 10W of power. USB-C supports charging up to 100W, and the iPhone X fast-charging likely requires around 18W.

It’s a real shame that fast-charging won’t work out of the box for the new iPhones, but it’s a classically Apple move. The iPhone has always shipped with a 5V, 1A charger, but recent iPhone models could actually charge faster if you went out and bought a separate 5V, 2.1A charger to use with your phone.

Apple also isn’t including a wireless charger in the box with the iPhone 8 or the iPhone X, so you’re mostly left to fend for yourself when it comes to accessories for the new iPhone."

you are correct, but you don't have to buy apple charger. But it is poor that apple don't include a higher capacity charger in the box. It seems that to get the most out of their newest models, you have to spend a lot more to buy accessories. eg They remove the headphone jack, but don't include the new earbuds with it , which is the whole reason they removed it because they could have fitted one in..

Pretty much the exact reason I moved to iOS
Started out with an S2-S4, faffed around with few Nexus devices etc then jumped over briefly with a 6 Plus to see how the other half lived, got bored came back across to a S7 Edge, decided I'd try again with a 6S Plus and haven't looked back, currently on a 7 Plus and quite happy.... getting curious again though maybe I take the Note 8 and hand down my iPhone hehe

Sorry? My iPhone 7 was shipped with EarPods with lightning and also a 3.5 mm to lightning converter.
Were you expecting them to include the Bluetooth AirPods or something?

Other than the second camera and the stylus, isn't the S8+ much cheaper and curvier.

Yes airpods. They claim that was the while reason for removing the headphone jack, as they say that wireless is the future, but then they don't include them with the device, and that is an extra $260ish. Many people expect that they wouldn't cost more than $30 to buy.

Lightning earphones aren't the future, they are just a stopgap, and if you want to use decent wired headphones with it, you have to use the lightning dongle.

To make the most of all the features of the new iphone, you have to now buy lots of addons these days. eg fast charger and USB 3 cable, airpods, wireless charging pads etc.

Exactly!

A $2100 phone that is feature rich (for an iPhone) and doesn't include a fast charger which from memory I think is $70 usd, and people are creaming themselves for this phone. Apple is truely pulling the wool over the eyes and right down to the feet.
